Digital Metropolis Offers WebDVD

16-Aug-00

Digital Metropolis now offers WebDVD as its newest media solutions package. Clients who wish to deliver full-screen, full-motion video with player-type controls of their DVD player from their Web sites may now do so with ease. Far beyond conventional Web video quality, DVD-Video linked to the Web is a revolution for the industry. Digital Metropolis is a leading developer in WebDVD technology and believes that the most viable markets include online training, sales and marketing and e-commerce. John Nimmo, President of Digital Metropolis, states, ""WebDVD immediately overcomes the limitation of bandwidth on the Internet, allowing the combination of high-quality video with the immediacy of the Internet. For instance, a training segment on sales techniques is currently limited by poor-quality video that takes a long time to download over the Web. We provide the capability to control a DVD player from a userís Web page. This allows the user to view a high-quality training product and then take a test online for immediate grading."" Currently, the Web page of an Internet or Intranet site can be programmed to control and play back a DVD that is in a DVD-ROM drive of a PC. With increases in bandwidth, the DVD may eventually stream from a DVD Jukebox out to an Intranet or Internet Web site. The application of this technology was used at the Telcom í99 show in Geneva, Switzerland where it was used for product demonstrations inside 16 kiosks. Functional capabilities include being able to start, stop, fast forward, replay, go full screen and change channels (play different chapters) of the DVD. Jerry Sexton, CEO of Digital Metropolis states, ""The use of quality DVD-Video clips for product marketing segments allows us to create catalogs with high impact imagery. Couple this imagery with e-commerce applications and the potential is endless."" The ultimate goal of teaming up with interactive TV providers is not far away.
