CEDIA Now Offers An Extended Service Plan To Members

25-Aug-00

The Custom Electronic Design and Installation Association (CEDIA) announced its Extended Service Plan (ESP) in partnership with Philips Priority Service and American Modern Insurance Group. Through ESP, CEDIA dealers are now able to offer their customers up to five years of wrap-around, on-site coverage for custom home theatre installations. While the concept is not new, the delivery certainly is. The plan has been designed to provide peace of mind to both dealers and consumers. It was created specifically for custom home theatre applications, and planners were careful to ensure that the plan allows for a minimal volume of paperwork and a reasonable pricing structure. Through the plan there is no need to look up individual items and fill out a myriad of contracts - all installed items are covered under one contract, one price. All items installed in the system become In-Home Service after 365 days - even if the original manufacturers warranty did not provide for In-Home service. As an added bonus, all electronics are covered for surge protection from day one. In addition, the service contract is transferable to another consumer, and the plan is renewable (in one-year increments) after the initial contract period has expired. According to Billilynne Keller, CEDIA Executive Director, the plan is proving to be a ""win-win"" situation for CEDIA members and consumers. ""The extended service plan has been long requested by CEDIA members and is now receiving the warm welcome we've expected. Many members who have signed-on are automatically including the protection plan in the price of every installation,"" said Keller. CEDIA was founded in 1989 and represents more than 1,600 member companies that specialize in designing and installing electronic systems - typically media rooms, single- or multi-room entertainment systems, home networking, home automation and communication systems, and integrated whole-house subsystems providing control of lighting, security and HVAC systems. Members are established, insured businesses with bona-fide qualifications and experience in this specialized field.
