THOMSON multimediaís (NYSE: TMS) PROSCAN brand lifts the curtain this year on the ultra-thin PSP42300 CinemaScreen plasma TV monitor. The PSP42300 (suggested retail price $11,999) presents a viewing area in the widescreen 16x9 format. The digital monitor measures 41.3 inches wide by 25.5 inches high, yet is only 3.5 inches deep, dimensions that make it ideal for wall mounting or placement on a table-top or wall shelf utilizing a stand that is included with the monitor. The PSP42300 is designed to serve as the centerpiece of an advanced digital home entertainment system or for commercial application when high-quality image displays are required. ""The rectangular shape of the plasma screen reflects the panorama of widescreen movies as well as digital high definition TV programming,"" said Michael Shultz, General Manager, TV Product Management, Thomson. ""This cutting edge product combines new flat-panel plasma technology with visual excellence to deliver a spectacular entertainment experience."" The display area of the PSP42300 is virtually all-screen with the viewing area outlined by a slim border designed to resemble a picture frame. The plasma monitor delivers deep, rich colors with 853 x 480 pixel resolution and 500:1 contrast ratio for lifelike picture performance. For maximum display capability, the monitor can be paired with the PROSCAN PSHD105 HDTV (or RCA DTC100) digital set-top converter to achieve digital-quality video images from HDTV signal sources such as an RCA DIRECTVÆ satellite receiver or from terrestrial broadcast stations. The monitor is DTV compatible with 720p and 1080i input resolution. The flat screen and 3.5-inch depth of the monitor make it ideal for in-wall home entertainment systems or for commercial locations such as messaging centers for airport terminals, hospitals, hotels, business conference rooms, and other areas where large groups congregate. The computer input range of the monitor - VGA, SVGA, XGA, and SXGA - makes it equally impressive as a large-screen computer monitor for displaying text and graphics in a classroom or business environment since plasma technology assures constant picture geometry even in larger and wider screen sizes. For home use, conveniently located input jacks - including composite, S-Video, component (Y-Pr-Pb) and RGB - simplify the connection of audio/video components. A built-in stereo amplifier (2 x 7 watts per channel) completes the formula for creating an authentic home theatre experience, and matching external speakers are available as an option.
