New RCA DVD-Video Players Provide Viewers With Control Of On-Screen Movie Action

THOMSON multimediaís (NYSE: TMS) new line of RCA DVD-Video players includes new features on some models allow consumers to easily review a favorite scene or selectively remove offending material so that the whole family can enjoy a DVD feature. Basic Models Offer Affordability, Multiple Features - The RC5910PC (suggested retail price $449) is a five-disc DVD-Video/Audio CD changer that offers the opportunity to view up to five consecutive full-length movies without changing a single disc. The consumer also has the option of mixing movie discs with audio CDs for hours of uninterrupted, personalized entertainment. - The RC5215P (suggested retail price $299) features Scene Againô as well as DolbyÆ Digital and DTSÆ Digital Surroundô compatibility, multi-language subtitles, SRS TruSurround sound and a DVD remote. High-End Models Add More Features - The RC5225P (suggested retail price $349) incorporates both Scene Again instant replay and Scene Snipô parental editing. Also features an array of additional features such as Dolby Digital built-in decoding, SRS TruSurround, still picture switchable to field/frame, DTS Digital Surround capability, IntroScan, jog/shuttle dial control, zoom function and Master TouchÆ universal remote. - The RC5227P (suggested retail price $399) also includes both the Scene Again instant replay and Scene Snip parental editing features. In addition, the RC5227P will play back discs encoded with MP3 music (a single MP3 music disc can offer over ten hours of music) along with additional features such as Dolby Digital built-in decoding, SRS TruSurround, still picture switchable to field/frame, DTS Digital Surround capability, IntroScan, jog/shuttle dial control, zoom function and Master TouchÆ universal remote. In addition to the editing features, viewing enhancements include a new interactive menu system that provides an on-screen Glossary Menu for all DVD features and benefits, a Lock Menu that establishes rating limits and parental edit features, and a Speaker Menu which walks the consumer through the steps for adding external speakers, including a graphic of a typical room layout. An additional advantage of RCA DVD-Video players is the inclusion of component video outputs in addition to standard composite and S-Video outputs. Component video provides the ultimate connection between the DVD-Video player and an advanced TV to deliver superior picture performance with minimal line scan and digital artifacts. Other features include shuttle control for simplified scene search, multi-language subtitle capability, multiple aspect ratio for viewing in standard 4x3 or widescreen 16x9 formats, Programmable Playback, chapter/track/search and repeat, random playback CD, Dolby Digital capability, random playback CD and marker functions. Connections include A/V outputs, S-Video output, and DTS Digital Surround output. Editing features include: Scene Again - The Scene Again function provides instant access to any missed movie scene. This special option allows the consumer to jump back approximately six seconds with each press of the Scene Again button on the remote control. This enables the consumer to view the missed video or audio without the hassle of rewinding and fast-forwarding before finding the missed segment. The Scene Again feature also includes the addition of subtitles. This feature is available on RC5215, RC5225P, and RC5227P. Scene Snip - This feature puts the control of movie content viewing in the hands of the consumer, permitting the removal of up to six scenes while watching the movie. Edited scenes are stored in the permanent flash memory of the player and will play back only when a four-digit password is entered. This feature is available on RC5225P and RC5227P. Parental Rating Control - Further enhancing the viewerís control over movie watching is the Parental Rating Control feature which allows the parent or adult to determine appropriate viewing for children. An additional advantage is knowing that the rating control is impenetrable without a password. Available on RC5225P and RC5227P. Intelliseekô Scan Modes - This feature offers clear pictures in fast, slow, forward, and reverse motion playback. Fast speeds allow for immediate scanning to any point in the disk, while slow-motion forward and reverse speeds enable fine-tuning scanning. Available on all four models.
