Super ColorStream PRO Progressive Scan OutputSuper ColorStream PRO progressive scan DVD-Video technology is included in both the SD9200 and Toshiba's new SD6200 DVD player, and is said to extend the performance of progressive scan DVD-Video. This newly developed technology utilizes analog and digital filtering, and digital decoding to reportedly capture and process 100 percent of the video signal. Both models also feature a 10-bit/54MHz video digital-to-analog converter. The SD9200 also features the companyís 3D-DNR Video Noise Reduction system, which is claimed to reduce the incidence of random video noise, particularly in background images. The 3D-DNR system utilizes Frame Correlative technology, designed to reduce random occurring noise without sacrificing image resolution. The SD6200 employs an RTD (Reflection Threshold-Level Detection) noise reduction system which operates within each single frame to reportedly reduce randomly occurring noise in the picture. The SD9200, in common with all Toshiba DVD players, includes Video Black Level Expansion circuitry. With this function, the viewer can choose to set the reference black threshold cutoff to Normal (7.5 IRE) or Enhanced (0 IRE). All Toshiba DVD players also include the capability of reproducing ""blacker than black"" PLUGE signals, a critical feature for determining the optimum brightness setting for a properly calibrated home theatre system. DVD-Audio CapabilityThe SD9200 DVD-Audio/Video player is compatible with two-channel and multi-channel DVD-Audio software. DVD-Audio can deliver up to 192kHz/24-bit stereo audio (compared to 44.1kHz/16-bit for standard CD audio). DVD-Audio can also deliver up to six channels of full bandwidth content. The SD9200 is equipped with six analog audio outputs to provide multi-channel and stereo DVD-Audio to a compatible receiver or pre-amp. DVD-Audio's capabilities will allow consumers to enjoy music discs that not only deliver the ultimate in digital audio sound reproduction, but include video content as well. Some examples of video content that may be added to DVD-Audio discs include album liner notes, artist biographies and even music videos. The SD9200 is equipped with an Advanced Multi-Bit Delta-Sigma converter from Analog DevicesÆ. The model also features an Adaptive Multi-Port Parallel DAC System to parallel-process the L/R audio signals three times, supposedly for ultra-low distortion during two-channel operation. As a result, signal-to-noise ratio and dynamic range specifications are claimed to be extended to 120dB. High-Mass, Copper-Shielded Cabinet ConstructionThe overall build quality of the flagship Model SD9200 is claimed to set new standards for the industry, with performance-matched components and a high-mass vibration-resistant cabinet designed to maintain signal integrity. The unit's high-mass copper-shielded chassis is said to provide a superior platform for audio and video reproduction. The increased mass and unique combination of materials used in the cabinet's construction reportedly results in significant damping of external and internal vibration. The copper-shielded chassis is also said to reduce unwanted eddy currents within the chassis to maximize audio purity and resolution of fine sonic detail. In addition to performance-matched components, the Toshiba SD9200 utilizes selected audiophile-grade polypropylene film capacitors in the audio signal path. The unit also features a new stabilized disc tray as well as a special Video Off circuit that eliminates the possibility of sound-degrading crosstalk during audio disc playback. On the SD9200, the fluorescent display panel literally slides down to reveal the tray and loading assembly. In addition, the SD9200 and SD6200 both feature built-in DolbyÆ Digital decoding. Both models feature HDCDÆ precision filtering and decoding, a process that provides true 20-bit audio resolution from the growing number of HDCD-enhanced CDs. The patented HDCD precision filtering process also enhances the playback sound of conventional CDs. Both models offer compatibility with Video CD, as well as CD-R content. The SD9200 has a suggested retail price of $1999.99 will be available in the fourth quarter of 2000. The SD6200 is priced at $1199.00 and is now available.
