Giant Screen Theater Association Meeting September 14-19, Frankfurt

Big News On Big Films

7-Sep-00

Why would a large-format theatre owner from Australia go halfway around the world to book a seat for a German IMAXĆ film theatre? How could a meeting in Frankfurt have an impact on entertainment in Dallas, Texas? This is the one time of the year that all the new large-format films will simultaneously premiere to a select audience. Itís the industry (and press) exclusive opportunity to screen the next ""Fantasia 2000"" or ""Everest."" Frankfurtís Kino IMAXĆ and nearby Hotel Intercontinental will play host to about 700 film and technology professionals, discussing the latest trends in large-format films and filmmaking. The annual conference and trade show is big news for the members of the GSTA, and could prove to have a big impact on the millions of viewers of IMAX and other large format films around the world. According to Mr. James Marchbank, President of the GSTA, ""Our annual conference is the most efficient and fair way for the hundreds of large format theatres to have an equal chance to see new products. Because each 40-minute film can weigh 200 pounds and cost $29,000 (US), the expense of making and shipping copies in a timely manner is prohibitive. The conference provides valuable information about the variables and parallel operations in each of our theatres."" More information is available on the conference Web site, www.giantscreentheater.com. The GSTA was launched as a not-for-profit organization in 1977. It has grown to include 304 members in 31 countries.
