Runco Debuts Its First High Definition Capable Rear Projection Television Based On DLPô Technology

12-Sep-00

At CEDIA EXPO 2000, Runco introduced the Reflectionô VX-8400c - a rear projection high definition capable television based on DLPô technology from Texas Instruments. Runco is the first company to offer this technology on a large screen. Runco will preview a new 1280 x 720 resolution DLP light engine that will eventually be integrated into the Runco Reflection series line in both front and rear projection formats. The Reflection Series projectors are paired with the Runco VHD controllers, which will up-convert the signal to the native resolution of the unit (1280 x 720) and will provide high-quality 10-bit processing, as well as aspect ratio control. The Reflection VX-8400c is an 84-inch wide screen (96-inch diagonal), producing a 1100 ANSI Lumens. The unit is approximately 46 inches deep and designed to be installed in the wall. ""CEDIA is the ideal place for us to communicate our newest advances to those best prepared to understand and appreciate them,"" says Runco International President Sam Runco. ""We wanted our dealers to be the first to experience our entry in this category, and to share our excitement for this new model. I have been following this technology for quite sometime - it has progressed significantly and its future potential is inconceivable. Runco is a company that sells the ëWowí factor - we think the VX-8400c will rise to the challenge."" The Reflection VX-8400cís resolution of 1280 x 720 allows the projector to display 720p in its native format. The new model has a brightness level claimed to be five times than that of a CRT. Addtionally, the VX-8400c incorporates VIVIXô technology, Runcoís proprietary video processing. Runco is currently in negotiations for licensing its VIVIX technology. The Reflection VX-8400c is expected to ship first quarter 2001.
