Marantz Introduces New Widescreen HDTV-Ready Rear Projection Television Sets At CEDIA EXPO 2000

2-Oct-00

Marantz America announced the introduction of two HDTV-ready widescreen (16:9) rear-projection color television sets, the 60-inch PV6080W and the 55-inch PV5580W. The new Marantz projection TV models include a wealth of advanced video and audio technologies to deliver a spectacular big-screen home theatre viewing experience, along with unmatched user convenience. John McCready, Marantz America Executive Vice President pointed out, ""Our new HDTV-ready models further expand Marantz's commitment to providing consumers with ultimate-performance video display products in the digital television era. As HDTV enters the mainstream and more consumers make the move to big-screen television in their home entertainment systems, Marantz will be there with TVs that offer extraordinary picture quality from today's high-resolution video sources and analog TV broadcasts, and compatibility with current and future HDTV and DTV programming."" The Marantz PV6080W and PV5580W, identical except for screen size, offer viewers all the benefits of HDTV resolution, color purity and lifelike image quality when used with a compatible HDTV set-top receiver. They also offer maximum picture performance from analog TV broadcasts. Both models are DTV-compatible and will display a 480p progressive scan and 1080i interlaced image with no conversion, and convert 480i NTSC signals to a 480p display. Both sets offer a maximum resolution of 1500 by 1080. To enable the dramatically improved resolution of the HDTV format to be viewed at its best, the PV6080W and PV5580W feature premium-quality optics and the most advanced digital video technologies. Their curved-faceplate 7-inch CRTs feature computer-aligned lens assemblies and utilize high-resolution phosphors and a tighter beam spot, to produce a super-sharp image with rich, vivid colors. Both models employ a first-surface reflection mirror that places the reflective surface outside the glass, eliminating the refraction distortion caused by conventional mirrors. For exceptionally realistic and natural image quality, the Marantz PV6080W and PV5580W are factory calibrated to correct NTSC 6500K color temperature, for the most accurate reproduction of video sources. In addition, provision for manual adjustment is provided. To assure the sharpest-possible image quality, both sets are factory converged by computer at 35 points across the screen, and also provide user-adjustable convergence via remote, should at-home fine-tuning ever be required. The PV6080W and PV5580W include a super-fine pitch, high-resolution lenticular screen, for improved contrast, sharper image focus and consistent picture quality over a wider angle, even in daytime viewing environments. Image quality is further enhanced by the sets' three-line digital comb filter, which offers improved vertical edge definition while virtually eliminating ""dot crawl"" when viewing NTSC sources. To accommodate every digital and analog video source and compatible HDTV set-top receivers, the Marantz PV6080W and PV5580W include HD component video, DVD component video, S-Video, composite video and VGA/SVGA inputs (via a 15-pin D-SUB input) for total connection flexibility and maximum image quality from HDTV, DVD, satellite broadcast, computer and other high-resolution video sources. In addition, convenient side-mounted A/V jacks allow ready connection of camcorders and video game players. Both sets offer a wide variety of user convenience features to maximize picture and sound quality, channel selection and viewing enjoyment, such as two MTS-stereo PIP tuners that provide picture-in-picture viewing without the need for an external tuner such as a VCR, and easy to navigate multi-language on-screen menus. The sets' GUIDEĈ Plus+ Gold enhanced on-screen programming guide automatically displays up-to-the-minute program listings at the touch of a button, and will also automatically activate a VCR to record a program at any time. Both models provide a selection of display modes to allow optimum viewing of any letterboxed, anamorphic or 4:3 NTSC video source, and automatically display ATSC sources in 16:9 aspect ratio. For the ultimate in ease of operation, both models come equipped with the Marantz RC2000 Mk II Programmable Universal Remote Control. The RC2000 Mk II can be programmed to provide total control of not only the PV6080W and PV5580W but also every component in a home entertainment system. Along with superb high-definition picture quality, the Marantz PV6080W and PV5580W are designed for outstanding audio performance. Both sets include a built-in 40-watt amplifier that provides powerful and dynamic stereo sound, with audio features such as built-in virtual surround sound that creates a realistic surround sound environment using just the TV's two built-in loudspeakers or a two-channel stereo system. The Marantz PV6080W carries a suggested retail price of $6,499 and is available as of October 2000. The Marantz PV5580W is now shipping with a suggested retail price of $5,999.
