Marantz HDTV-Compatible DLPô Video Projector Delivers Ultra-High-Resolution Image Quality

2-Oct-00

Marantz America announced the introduction of its VP8100 DLPô Projector, an ultimate-performance HDTV-compatible video projector that employs Digital Light Processingô (DLP) technology and leading-edge digital video circuitry to deliver extraordinary image quality with a remarkable 800:1 contrast ratio. Measuring (in inches) just 3 7/8 high by 9 1/4 wide by 12 7/8 deep and weighing less than seven pounds, the ultra-portable VP8100 offers a host of operational and convenience features that make it ideal for the most sophisticated custom home theatre installations and critical portable applications. The Marantz VP8100 employs leading-edge DLP technology to project images with far greater brightness and higher resolution than conventional front projectors, along with a standard-setting 800:1 contrast ratio. The VP8100 utilizes a 1024 x 768 pixel panel, for state-of-the-art resolution and sharpness, enabling the projector to display HDTV images with native 720p resolution and computer images with native XGA resolution. The VP8100 is compatible with virtually every digital and analog video display device, and can operate in either native progressive scan mode or upconvert video sources, depending on the signal source. The VP8100 can display a 480p or 720p progressive scan image from a DVD-Video player, HDTV set-top box or computer up to XGA resolution, or an upconverted image from any NTSC source. Unlike conventional DLP projectors, the VP8100 has the ability to display progressive scan DVD movies in any widescreen or 4:3 aspect ratio, with no aspect ratio conversion or loss of image quality. The VP8100 automatically scales down or upconverts video sources as necessary. Because DLP is a digital system rather than the conventional analog system used in CRT projectors, a signal from a digital video source such a DVD player or digital set-top box remains digital through the entire video chain without conversion to analog at the projector. The result is noise-free picture quality with exceptional gray scale and color resolution. Thanks to its state-of-the-art single-chip DLP technology, precision optics and Marantz's powerful P-VIP lamp system, the Marantz VP8100 delivers 700 ANSI lumens brightness, enabling it to project a super-sharp picture from 40 to 275 inches diagonal measurement, making it ideal for use wherever a very large, ultimate-quality video image is desired. The VP8100 is compatible with virtually any video program source, featuring HD component video, component video, S-Video and composite video connections as well as analog RGB computer inputs. The Marantz VP8100 offers a wealth of operational and convenience features for total viewing flexibility in home theatre environments. The projector can be set to display either 16:9 widescreen or standard 4:3 aspect ratios, and features three viewing modes - Theatre, Normal and Dynamic for maximum big-picture enjoyment. In widescreen aspect ratio operation, the VP8100's unique Lens Shift feature enables the image to be shifted up or down and projected through the upper or lower portion of the lens, to achieve correct picture geometry if the projector is not mounted exactly parallel to the screen. For exceptionally realistic and natural image quality, the Marantz VP8100 is calibrated to three color temperatures including correct NTSC 6500K color temperature, and if desired, provision for easy manual adjustment is provided. The VP8100's advanced P-VIP lamp system provides thousands of hours of life, and includes a lamp life elapsed time display with a Replace Lamp indicator that activates when the lamp has less than 100 hours of life left. All functions of the Marantz VP8100 are easily operated by the supplied remote control and advanced on-screen menu. The VP8100 includes remote in/out and two 12V DC trigger connections for integrated operation in a custom installation that can trigger two different operations - for example, the VP8100 can be set to reconfigure a dual-aspect ratio projection screen whenever the aspect ratio of the program source changes from 16:9 to 4:3. In addition, the VP8100's remote control accesses a full complement of convenience functions, including a Digital Zoom and Freeze feature that allows the viewer to zoom in on any of five points on the screen and magnify them to four times normal size. The Marantz VP8100 is now available at a suggested retail price of $12,499. For more information, visit Marantz America at www.marantz.com.
