Genelec Introduces The New AIW26 Active In-Wall Speaker System

Genelec, Inc., exclusive U.S. distributor of Genelec Active Home Theater Systems, introduces the new AIW26 active in-wall speaker system. Designed as a direct result of input from installers, project engineers and end users, the AIW26 is a self-contained, active speaker that is easy to install, delivers accurate sound, and has the ability to handle extremely high SPLs with a wide dynamic range. The AIW26 can be used to augment a conventional speaker system, or as part of a complete Genelec in-wall system in either multichannel surround as well as stereo configuration. The AIW26 offers installers a high quality, active in-wall alternative when a freestanding speaker system does not fit a roomís dÈcor. The AIW26 active in-wall speaker system is a bi-amplified speaker that features a 6 1/2-inch low distortion bass driver in a reflex cabinet with a 3/4-inch metal dome tweeter loaded with Genelecís proprietary Directivity Control Waveguide Technology (DCWô) and a matched remote amplifier module, the RAM1. The DCWô provides an extremely stable and precise soundstage throughout the listening area. This improved directivity control results in more direct (and less reflected) sound reaching the listener, which produces a more realistic and stable image. In addition, the supplied RAM1 amplifier is designed to be a perfect match with the AIW26 speaker. As with all Genelec products, the RAM1 includes a series of room response controls to fine tune the speakerís performance to any given environment. The Genelec AIW26 active in-wall speaker system features a compact design (18 1/8 H x 13 W x 4 D inches) and includes an integrated electronic crossover, the RAM1 amplifier (80 watts for bass and 50 watts for treble), room response equalizers, RCA and XLR line level input connectors, and adjustable input sensitivity for interface to all types of decoders. The AIW26 has a frequency response of 52Hz-18kHz (+/-2.5dB) and can achieve extremely high SPLs - 105dB at 1 meter. The RAM1 amplifier module measures 12-3/8 (H) x 5-1/2 (W) x 4-1/4 (D) inches. Up to three units can be mounted in a 19-inch equipment rack (with optional 3u high rack adapter) or placed on a shelf or in a cabinet. Wiring between the RAM1 amplifier can be standard 14 or 12-gauge 4-conductor wire. Easy to mount in walls or ceilings, the Genelec AIW26 can be installed to either existing or new construction within a standard 2-inch x 4-inch structure. The AIW26 reflex cabinet actually reinforces the drywall and provides excellent isolation from the wall structure. In addition, a separate grill and mounting frame for the AIW26 can be painted to match the wall color.
