Vision Fund Of America Awards Dinner Raises More Than $750,000, Promotes Awareness Of People With Visual Impairments

More than $750,000 was raised by the Vision Fund of America at its Annual Awards Dinner benefiting Lighthouse International. Honored at this year's event were Dr. Teruaki Aoki, former President and Chief Operating Officer of Sony Electronics Inc. and an executive vice president of Sony Corporation, and Warren N. Lieberfarb, President of Warner Home Video. The evening was hosted by comedy legend David Brenner with a performance by GrammyĆ Award-winning music artist Mary Chapin Carpenter. ""We are once again overwhelmed by the industry support that enabled this year's event to be so successful,"" said Vision Fund Chairman Kenneth F. Wiedeman. ""As a result we were proud to present Lighthouse International with an unprecedented check to help in their effort to assist people of all ages who are visually impaired."" The Vision Fund of America is an organization of visual media professionals in the entertainment, information and communication technology industries. The VFA is dedicated to raising funds for Lighthouse International, a leading resource worldwide on vision impairment and vision rehabilitation, and supporting its mission to promote independence for people with vision impairments. Proceeds from the event will help support a major new initiative, LighthouseLink, a fully accessible online and offline resource that combines new technologies and traditional media for the immediate exchange of information, insights and advances in vision rehabilitation.
