Christie Introduces DLP Cinemaô To China

Presents First Digital Projection Demo At Beijing EXPO

Christie, Inc. presented the Chinese government and film industry with its first digital cinema viewing experience at a demonstration held at China Film Archive's Cultural Theatre on August 24, 2000. The digital cinema demo, sponsored by Christie, Inc., was held in conjunction with the 9th annual BIRTV conference (Beijing International Radio, TV & Film Equipment Exhibition). It served to help educate government officials and professionals working in China's cinema industry about Christie's leading efforts within the digital cinema market. An audience of approximately 500 guests experienced first-hand the power, clarity and ease of digital technology using the Christie DigiProô Digital Cinema projector. It was the first time that DLP Cinemaô was shown in mainland China. As part of the presentation, executives from both Christie Inc. and Texas Instruments discussed the advantages that DLP Cinema offers over competing technologies. Mr. Gu Zheng Bao, Vice President of China Film Equipment Corporation (CFEC) gave the introduction speech and Ms. Lin Yu, Christie's Marketing Manager for Asia, introduced all the speakers. Mr. Gu Xin Tai acted as professional interpreter for the Christie Inc. and Texas Instruments presenters. Dr. Glenn Sherman, CEO of Christie Systems, Inc., spoke about the formation of Christie Systems, Inc., the parent company for both Christie Inc. and Christie Digital Systems, Inc. Craig Sholder, Director of Marketing for Christie Inc., discussed both the history and continuing development of digital cinema technology as well as the marketing of the Christie DigiPro digital cinema projector. Paul Breedlove, Business Development Manager for Texas Instruments, DLP Cinema gave a detailed presentation about DLPô and DLP Cinema technology. Christie Inc. also invited Scott McCallum, Vice President of International Sales for QuVIS, to present and answer questions regarding the QuBit digital playback system, which is currently being used at all of the digital cinema demonstration sites throughout the world. Prior to and after the demo, invited attendees were allowed to tour the projection booth, where Christie staff was on-hand to answer questions about the digital cinema equipment. ""The presentation in China was a great success, because Christie was able to demonstrate cutting edge technology, never before seen in mainland China to a highly receptive audience. We also strengthened Christie's brand name and reputation with key decision makers, who will eventually decide the type of equipment that will be allowed in the Chinese market,"" commented Sholder. Christie Digital Systems was the first OEM selected to manufacture digital cinema projectors using Texas Instrumentsí DLP Cinema chip. The Christie DigiPro Digital Cinema projector allows for a contrast ratio of greater than 1000:1, with a native resolution of 1280 x 1024.
