Rotel Brings Benefits Of Balanced Design To DVD-Video Player

11-Oct-00

Rotel's new RDV-995 DVD-Video/CD/CD-R player combines advanced audio and video circuitry, DolbyÆ Digital, DTSÆ Digital Surroundô pass-through capability and a rugged resonance-resistant chassis to demonstrate that Rotel's Balanced Design Concept is as valid for video as it is for audio. ""In many ways,"" said Michael Bartlett, Rotel's Vice President and General Manager, ""the RDV-995 benefits from our track record in designing and producing award-winning CD players. In fact, some of us think of the RDV-995 as simply a very sophisticated CD and CD-R player that just happens to play DVD-Video discs, too. In making the transition from audio-only to A/V products, we haven't lost sight of the fact that our customers are demanding audiophiles at heart. That's what Rotel's Balanced Design Concept is all about - providing the best synthesis of both advanced and time-proven technologies to enhance out customers' satisfaction."" Digital audio capability includes high-speed single-bit D/A converters with 24-bit/96kHz resolution. Dolby Digital, DTS Digital Surround and PCM data streams are available at the coaxial digital output for use by a separate processor, if desired. The analog output stage follows Rotel tradition with precision parts in a high current configuration. The RVD-995's advanced switching power supply is fully isolated on its own circuit board and operates with any AC voltage from 100 to 250V (50 or 60Hz). High-current voltage regulators and low-ESR capacitors complete this critical circuit stage. A 10-bit, 27MHz video D/A converter, augmented by ""Video Fine"" capability, processes video data for maximum resolution. ""Zoom"" and ""strobe"" functions increase enjoyment with a wide variety of source materials. Users have a choice of three video output formats: component, S-Video or composite. In addition, the RVD-995 outputs NTSC or PAL video at the touch of a rear-panel switch.. The RDV-995's full-function remote control makes menu navigation easy. ""Virtual Surround"" provides a surround-like experience even when the unit is used in a stereo-only system. A dual-laser optical system makes this component perfectly at home with both DVDs and a variety of CD-based media. For instance, CD Text displays a full range of information from the many recent discs containing supplemental material designed to enhance musical enjoyment. And the RDV-995 is completely at ease with the increasingly popular CD-R format, so customers can fully enjoy custom-programmed discs. Simplified front-panel controls include a shuttle dial for fast disc scans and make the RVD-995 easy to use, even for novices. A legible front panel display provides instant feedback for error-free operation. Availability: November 2000 Suggested Retail Price: $899 For more information, visit www.rotel.com.
