Samsung Electronics America, a subsidiary of Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., announced the world's first HDTV-ready 24-inch analog/digital LCD monitor. The SyncMaster 240T is also the first display to offer an ultra-high, active resolution of 1920 x 1200 and an extra-wide 170 degree viewing angle. Samsung will be showcasing the display at the Comdex trade show (booth L4832) in Las Vegas, Nevada, November 13-17, 2000. This dual two-in-one display provides both digital and analog inputs, and is a computer monitor for viewing demanding graphics as well as a video monitor for direct hook up to a VCR, DVD-Video player, camcorder or even display high definition TV (HDTV). It can also be used as a powerful, large-screen presentation device. The SyncMaster 240T is currently available. According to J.M. Park, President of Samsung's Digital Information Technology Division, ""As the first 24-inch HDTV-ready dual digital/analog LCD display, the SyncMaster 240T is a perfect example of the power of Samsung and the company's ongoing effort to meet and exceed the needs of our consumer, corporate and professional customers. The SyncMaster 240T illustrates Samsung's commitment to push the technology envelope and design creative and innovative products for the digital age."" Perfect for desktop, presentation or video applications, the SyncMaster 240T is a complete multimedia display that features picture-in-picture (PIP), a resizable window that allows two different input sources to be viewed simultaneously. For example, you can watch a DVD or your digital satellite receiver in a window while working on your computer. In addition to the PIP, the 240T offers a Picture-By-Picture (PBP) function that splits the display screen into two equal viewing areas for convenient side-by-side screening of two different input sources, text-pages/ graphic-images and full motion video. The SyncMaster 240T is a complete multimedia display and is a perfect match for multimedia video conferencing. With it's 16:10 aspect ratio that is perfect for HDTV viewing, 240T can display high definition video when it is connected to a HDTV decoder card in a PC or HDTV set-top box through a 15-pin D-sub cable. The SyncMaster 240T is targeted to high-end graphics professionals who require the power and benefits of digital technology, which provides a sharper, cleaner image and more accurate representation of the original video source. Additionally, the Digital Video Interface (DVI) ensures optimum image quality without the hassle of end-user adjustments. Samsung's new SyncMaster 240T is designed for any application where high resolution and dual displays are necessary, such as CAD/CAM fine-detailed drawings, desktop publishing and Photoshop-extensive graphics and layering. While applications such as these usually require two displays - one for the application tools/palletes and one for the main image/drawing - the SyncMaster 240T eliminates the need and inconvenience of using two displays by accommodating application tools as well as the main drawing/graphic on one screen. The SyncMaster 240T has an extra-wide 170 degree viewing angle that is achieved as a result Samsung's unique liquid crystal technology, Multiple Domain Patterned Vertical Alignment (PVA). PVA Technology provides a better contrast ratio (450:1), improved brightness with less power consumption and offers an ultra-fast response time for better presentation of rapid motion video. The SyncMaster 240T also features a digital zoom that allows viewers to magnify any part of the on-screen image up to 64x. For greater control over the on-screen image, the SyncMaster 240T features an easy-access one button auto calibration system for quick proportioning of screen geometry, contrast, brightness and clock-phase. The on-screen display system features a comprehensive menu of controls, including auto adjustment, color and image size. All the controls also can be performed conveniently by the remote control provided with the unit. The SyncMaster 240T offers an optional USB hub, with two upstream ports and four downstream ports. USB simplifies hook up to desktop peripherals - such as a keyboard, mouse, joystick, printer or scanner - and offers improved PC-to-peripheral performance. For easy installation and optimum configuration, Samsung's 240T has built-in plug-and-play capability that conforms to the Video Electronics Standards Association's (VESA) Display Data Channel (DDC) Type 1/2B standards. Plug-and-play automatically configures the monitor with the host computer and selects the optimum resolution and refresh rates to achieve crisp detail, bright colors and razor sharp images. Samsung's 240T meets the stringent TCO '95 standards for low emissions and incorporates a power management system that complies with VESA, DPMS, NUTEK and the Environmental Protection Agency's Energy Star Standards for energy efficient reduced power consumption. Samsung backs all of its monitors with a three-year LCD, parts and labor warranty, as well as toll-free technical support 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and an Advanced Replacement Program for hassle-free repairs. Samsung is partnering with Telemann Systems, San Jose, California, a maker of HDTV decoding cards, to enable users to view HDTV programming through their PCs via an add-on card. Telemann's HiPix DTV-200 PC Card provides HDTV video and DolbyĆ Digital 5.1 audio, allowing users to enjoy all of the benefits of digital TV on a standard PC. The card will be available with the 240T as an option. For more information about Samsung's SyncMaster, visit www.samsungmonitor.com.
