ReplayTV Inc. Launches ReplayTV Studios

In a move that will further define the new frontiers of personal television, ReplayTV Inc. Chief Executive Officer Kim LeMasters announced the formation of ReplayTV Studios, a new division that produces, broadcasts and delivers original programming exclusively for ReplayTV digital video recorders. Working with media and advertising partners, ReplayTV Studios is developing a rich lineup of unique short films, music videos, sneak previews and behind-the-scenes features. ReplayTV Studios, in conjunction with its first partner Universal Pictures, will broadcast trailers of holiday releases ""The Grinch,"" ""Billy Elliot,"" and ""The Family Man."" ReplayTV customers will also see the VHS home video and DVD trailer for ""Gladiator"" and a behind-the-scenes look at ""Gladiator"" and ""Nutty Professor II: The Klumps."" A Janet Jackson music video, ""Doesnít Really Matter,"" also airs soon. Located in Los Angeles, California, ReplayTV Studios is working in partnership with Universal Pictures, NBC, Showtime Networks, Cartoon Network, Fox Network, NewLine Cinema and others to create new and exclusive features for ReplayTV customers. Headed by Executive Vice President Rob Kenneally, ReplayTV Studios aims to enhance the entertainment experience by giving consumers access to unique programming that only ReplayTV offers. And since the programming is updated monthly, ReplayTV customers will continue to find new content of interest. Larry Gerbrandt, Senior Analyst at Paul Kagan Associates, Inc., an independent media research and consulting firm, views this development as an example of how this new technology can deliver original and unique content to viewers and also provide highly targeted marketing for programmers. ""The fact that major studios and networks are providing additional material designed to be watched on DVRs is a big step in the evolution of personal television."" ""With the launch of ReplayTV Studios, our viewers get to see unique content they canít get anywhere else, while sampling the tremendous variety of programming available through the ReplayTV Service,"" Kenneally said. ""At the same time, content providers can now introduce new films, shows and specials to our customers. By offering consumers something extra, studios and networks can connect with viewers in new ways to attract them to their offerings."" Content will include major movie sneak previews from the worldís top film studios and TV networks, exclusive short films, behind-the-scenes features and other specials to ReplayTV personal TV users. To keep the content current, new programming will air regularly on local cable TV channels to be automatically recorded through ReplayZones for consumers who want to keep up on the latest from ReplayTV Studios. The second broadcast will debut in December. It will include concert footage from rock groups ""The Wallflowers"" and ""Green Day"" to be provided by Universal Music Group.
