20-Nov-00

Media Distribution Systems, LLC has announced the commencement of testing of its video-on-demand (VOD) product in its technical lab in Bend, Oregon. Media Distribution Systems, LLC offers interactive television and multimedia product platforms targeting cable television providers as well as other specialty markets. ""After 18 months of development, our team has finished the R&D process and launched full-scale testing of the VOD platform VST2000,"" comments Jon Girod, President of Media Distribution Systems, LLC. ""Our initial lab development is to develop a robust platform that is intended to offer video-on-demand services, and high-speed Internet access. This represents the completion of Phase I of our development of the VST2000. Additional platform upgrades will include additional content availability, and in later phases voice connectivity using the existing cable network."" ""The MDS media server offers the highest level of security and encryption to the content owner or movie licensing company. Our development and design also lends itself to one of the most economical solutions to interactive television platforms on the market today,"" comments Larry Holeman, Executive Vice President of Engineering. ""The MDS product niche involves capitalizing on the ability to offer tight security and encryption so studio content will remain protected at a price point where return on investment is acceptable."" Video-on-demand is a service that will provide the end user with the capability of viewing a movie without leaving the comforts of their home. With the MDS system, an end user can select from their television screen a movie for viewing. In other words, the same movie can be independently broadcast to multiple homes with the end user controlling viewing time, movie start, stop and rewind. Currently MDS and its sister company Movie Distribution & Licensing (MD&L) are in negotiations for licensing rights from major movie production studios. Licensing and content acquisition is expected to be completed by early 2001. The MDS media platform, VST2000 will have the capability of providing high-speed Internet access to the end user via laptop, PC or TV. An end user will have the capability of an ""always on"" Internet connection that is many times faster than the typical dial-up service without interfering with any existing telephone services.
