With exhibits from several leading companies, 23 individual conference sessions, two supersessions and two certification programs, the Riviera Hotel at the 2001 International CES will be the place for attendees to see, learn and experience the latest in mobile electronics, wireless and computer/IT technologies. The 2001 International CES will be held Saturday, January 6 through Tuesday, January 9 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Companies exhibiting in the Riviera include Alpine, AT&T, Broadcom and Mobile TV. Computer/IT companies at the Riviera include Emtec, Micronas Semi-Conductors and US Robotics. Other exhibitors in computer/IT will be located in the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC) and the Silver Pavilions. In addition to housing exhibitors, the Riviera will feature an extensive roster of educational programs concentrating on the mobile and wireless industry. ""The wireless and mobile sectors of the consumer electronics industry continue to grow as more and more consumers want to stay connected to family, friends, information and entertainment from anywhere at anytime,"" said Karen Chupka, Vice President of Events and Conferences for the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), the sponsor and producer of the International CES. ""With so many cutting-edge conference sessions and top-notch companies exhibiting in these growing sectors, we're confident the Riviera will generate heavy attendee traffic."" On Friday, January 5, prior to the opening of the show floor, the Riviera Hotel will host the University 4Mobility, sponsored by the Andrew Seybold Group, LLC. Three sessions in this conference track will cover the basics of wireless, why it is the ""next big thing,"" and the realities of wireless voice and data capabilities today and into the near future. The University 4Mobility requires a registration fee of $245 for those registering through December 15, 2000 and $295 thereafter. Complete conference registration information for this track is available at www.CESweb.org. The mobile electronics conference track begins on Saturday, January 6. The ten free sessions in this track will examine all aspects of automotive technology, including car navigation, vehicle security, on-board entertainment and more. Participants will learn how to install, how to sell and how to build their business in the mobile electronics marketplace. Installers also can participate in the Mobile Electronics Certified Professional (MECP) Program. MECP is the only industry supported, nationally recognized certification program for 12-volt installers. Individuals who wish to become certified can prepare for the exam at CES and earn their certificate right at the show. The MECP testing will take place at the Riviera Hotel on Sunday, January 7 from 8am to 5pm. The wireless conference track, which features ten sessions, will introduce CEA's new Wireless Training Program, designed to aid wireless retailers in selling convergent products and services, gaining insight into new training techniques for store personnel, maximizing customer opportunities and generating larger profits. Attendees will receive in-depth training on wireless sales techniques for both the Web and the sales floor and will learn how to maximize customer interaction and prepare salespeople to sell the latest in wireless products and services. Retailers who attend all eight training sessions will receive a certificate of completion. The Riviera Hotel also will house two supersessions on mobile electronics and wireless. On Saturday, January 6, the Digital Car Revolution supersession will feature David Acton of General Motors/On-Star, Dave Black of Clarion Corporation of America, Patrick Lavelle of Audiovox Communications Corp., Jack Withrow of DaimlerChrysler and Albert Wong of Clarion Advanced Technology discussing the impact of digital technology on mobile electronics and future products consumers can expect to see from manufacturers and retailers. Paul Hansen of The Hanson Report on Automotive Electronics will serve as moderator. The Wireless Luncheon supersession will take place on Monday, January 8, 2001. During the supersession, Philip Christopher of Audiovox Communications Corp., Per-Arne Sandstrom of Ericsson Inc., Mike Zafirovski of Motorola's Personal Communications Sector and Kari-Pekka Wilska of Nokia Inc. will discuss when third-generation (3G) wireless technology will become a reality, how it will effect the wireless industry, what consumers can expect and how companies can capitalize on what promises to be an explosive market. Editor-in-Chief of Wireless Review Rhonda Wickham will serve as moderator for the supersession. Mercedes-Benz USA will serve as the official Automotive sponsor for the 2001 International CES.
