Sensory Science Introduces New Loewe Aconda Series Digital Direct-View Televisions

8-Dec-00

Sensory Science Corporation (AMEX: VCR) announced it is expanding its lineup of superior-quality digital direct-view televisions through the introduction of its new Loewe Aconda series, and shipping of the line has commenced to retailers throughout the United States. The new Loewe Aconda line of televisions combines a completely flat picture tube with Invar Mask that provides crisp, distortion-free images with a high-gloss finish cabinet face, creating an elegantly styled set with unmatched performance. The initial Aconda model shipping to retailers comes with a 30-inch, 110-degree real-flat screen with a 16:9 aspect ratio, capable of displaying high definition program material, such as 1080i/960i HDTV from digital television tuners or satellite receivers. ""Our new Loewe Aconda series raises the bar for superior video performance that will turn the heads of even the most expert audio/video enthusiast, but we have also continued our leadership in aesthetics with a distinctive and superior design for a flat-screen television product,"" said Paul Fredrickson, Sensory Scienceís Senior Vice President of Marketing. The art of 3:2 pull-down technology was developed to transfer the high level of performance associated with film to video or television. The Loewe solution integrates 3:2 pull down circuitry with unique motion compensation technology developed by Loewe in Germany. This technology approach takes the 30 frames-per-second of video, recreates the original 24 frames-per-second of film and then creates 60 unique frames-per-second to be displayed on the television. This overcomes the inherent problems of the film-to-video transfer process in NTSC. The Acondaís 3:2 pull-down technology employs aggressive algorithms and other chassis enhancements, eliminating jitter and jutter, and providing the smoothest motion available in digital direct-view television, as well as the best reproduction of film-to-video transfer available in any television or digital display. Aiming to be the best television for both today and tomorrow, the Acondaís new RS-232 interface allows for sophisticated home networking, simplified user operation and instant software upgrades via external control systems. Five A/V inputs, including VGA - four located on the rear of the set and one located on the front panel - provide maximum versatility for connecting external components like DVD players, digital satellite systems, VCRs and camcorders. The Acondaís VGA port allows for RGB connection of a personal computer, high definition tuner or satellite receiver. All Loewe digital televisions employ sophisticated 3-D graphics to create a simple and elegant GUI. The Aconda line features numerous enhancements and advances in the on-screen operating system, making this truly the state-of-the-art in TV operation. The friendly on-screen interface eliminates the need for an ownerís manual, allowing a combination of on-screen text and graphics to guide the user through everything, from adjusting the picture and sound, to the connection of all external components with the help of interactive, self-paced animation. The audio performance of the Aconda also sets a new standard for televisions of any kind. All analog audio signals entering the set are converted to digital and processed to achieve the highest stereo separation, lowest distortion, and best signal-to-noise performance of any digital television on the market. Full-range two-way speakers are integrated into the Aconda for a dynamic, theatre-like sound experience. The Aconda can also be configured to serve as the center channel speaker for surround sound systems, eliminating the need to place an external speaker near the set. Added Fredrickson, ""This is a true multimedia television capable of displaying dazzling images in full, bright colors, whether connected to a cable system, satellite receiver or a computer. We believe the unitís versatility, elegant real-flat screen and attractive front finish makes the Aconda one of the best digital HDTV-compatible televisions on the market today."" Additional features include the ability to switch between five digital picture modes, including Panorama, Cinema, Zoom, 16:9 (anamorphic) and 4:3. A split-screen picture-in-picture (PIP) as well as a size-adjustable PIP using a dedicated second tuner is also standard in the Aconda line, as is automatic volume control to reduce unexpected volume increases caused by commercials or the changing of channels. Other features include parental control (V-chip), automatic channel programming, MTS digital stereo decoder and closed captioning capability. A universal programmable/upgradeable remote control operates all of the televisionís options and features using only 31 buttons. The first model is available in two high-gloss finishes - Piano Black and Stratos Metallic. An optional custom designed glass rack to hold the Aconda is also available, providing an attractive appearance from all angles. The Aconda series is shipping out to more than 450 of Sensory Scienceís high-end specialty A/V retailers, and will retail for $3,600. The Aconda joins Loeweís existing line of digital direct-view televisions that range in screen size from 30-inch 16:9 to 32-inch and 36-inch 4:3. Additional models are in development and planned for introduction early next year. For more information about Sensory Science, visit www.sensoryscience.com.
