Active Thermal Management, the San Diego, California-based firm specializing in solving heat-related problems in audio/video and home theatre installations, has begun first shipments of its new System 2 silent ventilating system. Designed to cool small to medium-size enclosures, the System 2 is similar in concept to the original System 1, but is designed to be the low-cost, simple-to-install venting solution for smaller heat loads in smaller cabinets (and smaller budgets!).The System 2 is comprised of a fan panel to which is mounted control electronics. The control electronics receives information about the temperature of the air in the enclosure and the equipment from two thermistor probes and sends just enough power to two quiet axial-flow fans to maintain a safe temperature within the enclosure. At just above normal room temperature, the fans turn very slowly, speeding up only if the equipment warms. At any time, the fans turn only as fast as necessary, cooling without excess noise. An over-temperature alarm sounds and a relays closes if an abnormal temperature rise should occur.
