The Video Software Dealers Association Will Honor Kevin Bacon With Its 2001 ""Video Man Of The Year"" Award At Its 2001 VSDA Convention

The Video Software Dealers Association (VSDA) will honor renowned actor Kevin Bacon with its 2001 ""Video Man Of The Year"" Award at its 20th Annual VSDA Convention featuring the Home Entertainment Expo and DVD Festival 2001. The convention will be held January 7- 9, 2001 at the Sands Expo Center/Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada. The convention includes a full Education First! day of seminars on Saturday, January 6. The Video Star Of The Year Award will be presented to Mr. Bacon during the opening General Session on Sunday morning, January 7 at the Sands Expo Center/Venetian Hotel from 10-11:30am. The announcement was made by Bo Andersen, President of the Video Software Dealers Association. One of the foremost actors of his generation, Kevin Bacon has proven his talents in a wide range of film genres from action thrillers to romantic comedies to heavy dramas, and even the occasional musical. Baconís most recent performances include his starring role as Sebastian Caine in ""Hollow Man"" (Columbia TriStar, 2000), a drama about an invisible man. He also starred in this yearís sleeper hit, ""My Dog Skip"" (Warner Brothers, 2000). In 1999 Bacon starred in ""Stir Of Echoes"" (Artisan, 2000) as Tom Witzky, a title which won two VSDA Home Entertainment Awards at its 19th annual convention in July, 2000, including Rental Title Of The Year by an independent studio and Best Renting Title by an independent studio. With the support of his parents, Bacon left his native Philadelphia to become the youngest student at Circle In The Square Theatre in New York where he studied until he made his film debut role in ""National Lampoonís Animal House"" as Chip Diller in 1978. Since this start Bacon has acted in over 39 films, some of his most notable performances include ""Wild Things"" (1998) which he also produced, ""Digging To China"" (1998), ""Picture Perfect"" (1997), ""Telling Lies In America"" (1997), ""Sleepers"" (1996), ""Apollo 13"" (1995), ""Murder In The First"" (1995), ""Balto"" (1995), ""The River Wild"" (1994), ""A Few Good Men"" (1992), ""JFK"" (1991), ""He Said, She Said"" (1991), ""Flatliners"" (1990), ""Tremors"" (1990), ""The Big Picture"" (1989), ""Sheís Having A Baby"" (1988), ""Criminal Law"" (1988), ""Footloose"" (1984), ""Diner"" (1982) and numerous others. Bacon also made his directorial debut in 1996 with ""Losing Chase,"" starring his wife, actress Kyra Sedgwick, along with Beau Bridges and Helen Mirren. Produced for Showtime, ""Losing Chase"" was honored with three Golden Globe nominations, including Best Motion Picture Made For Television. Kevin Bacon has also performed in several off-Broadway stage productions such as ""Album,"" ""Poor Little Lambs"" and ""Getting Out."" He made his Broadway debut in 1983 with Sean Penn in ""Slab Boys,"" and also starred in ""Loot"" in 1986. More recently, Bacon returned to New York to appear in ""Spike Heels,"" a comedy with Tony Goldwyn and Saundra Santiago. Baconís television credits include the American Playhouse version of Lanford Wilsonís play ""Lemon Sky,"" a production that teamed him with his future wife. Other television credits include ""The Gift"" and the cable film ""Enormous Changes At The last Minute."" With his older, musician brother Michael, Kevin is the other half of ""The Bacon Brothers,"" a successful band with a sound that Kevin describes as ""Forosoco"" (also the name of their fist album) - which means folk, rock, soul and country. Already highly regarded and hugely successful on the national club circuit, they are just putting their finishing touches on their second, yet untitled, album for the Bluxo label. Bacon resides with this wife and two children in New York. Former VSDA ""Video Man Of The Year"" honorees include George Clooney, John Travolta, Robin Williams, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Michael J. Fox.
