QuantumÆ QuickView IEEE 1394 DVR Subsystem And DVR Streaming Technology To Accelerate The Personal Video Recording Market

5-Jan-01

QuantumÆ Corporation's Consumer Electronics Business Unit, a division of the Hard Disk Drive Group (NYSE: HDD), will exhibit cutting-edge digital video recording (DVR) technology solutions and unveil its A/V (audio/video) Solutions Alliance at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), being held January 6-9, 2001 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Quantum will also showcase a variety of pioneering consumer electronics (CE) products powered by Quantum QuickView technologies, including personal video recorders, cable and satellite set-top boxes, audio jukeboxes and Internet appliances. Quantum QuickView IEEE 1394 DVR Subsystem Quantum will be demonstrating the world's first isochronous IEEE 1394 DVR subsystem for CE networks. The Quantum QuickView subsystem stores and plays back video programs completely on its own with critical 5C Content Protection, meeting the entertainment industry's requirements for the protection of high-value A/V content. At CES, Quantum will be demonstrating the ability of the 1394 DVR subsystem to record and playback to and from a number of set-top boxes utilizing multiple bit streams, in both standard definition and high definition television (HDTV) formats. Quantum QuickView DVR Streaming Technology Quantum will also be demonstrating Quantum QuickView DVR streaming technology. The streaming technology provides the core DVR functionality of a personal video recorder (PVR) to set-top box (STB) host systems utilizing Quantum ATA hard disk drives (HDD). Quantum's DVR streaming technology will lead to lower costs, faster time-to-market and overall ease-of-entry into the PVR market for STB manufacturers. A/V Solutions Alliance Quantum's A/V Solutions Alliance will allow a wide array of CE manufacturers to come to market rapidly with cost-competitive products. The alliance will serve as a one-stop industry resource for DVR hardware, software and development, integration and testing services. Visit the Quantum booth to learn more about how the A/V Solutions Alliance will impact the growth of emerging hard drive-based CE categories.
