Samsung Introduces Affordable Progressive Scan DVD At CES

Maintain Picture Quality With DVD-P701

11-Jan-01

Samsung Electronics America introduced a DVD player that is capable of progressive scan output (480p). The DVD-P701 boasts top quality picture at an affordable price and was shown at the 2001 International Consumer Electronics Show. A key feature for DVD players as the digital television age draws near, progressive scan output allows for movies to be viewed in the format they were encoded. DVD players have until recently re-formatted the native progressive scan signals in DVDs, resulting in a loss of image quality. With progressive scan output, the DVD-P701 produces a fluid, flicker-free, theatre-quality picture - and Samsung employs a true 3:2 pull-down system. As DVDs have always been formatted in 480p, there is no need to upgrade your DVD collection. ""Progressive scan output offers the best picture available for DVDs and Samsung is very enthusiastic to be entering the category at a price point that is very affordable to consumers,"" said Claude Frank, Senior Manager of Samsung's Digital Convergence Group. Along with progressive scan output, the DVD-P701 features component video output, dual laser pickups, a slim cabinet with jog/shuttle dial and a jog shuttle remote control. Samsung's DVD-P701 will be available in August of 2001 for an MSRP of $299.99. For more information about Samsung Electronics America, visit www.samsung.com/USA.
