International CES Hosts First Demonstration Of The Versatile Home Network

15-Jan-01

A reception held by the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) Technology and Standards Department in the Las Vegas Hilton during the 2001 International CES featured the first public demonstration of the Versatile Home Networking (VHN) 1394b backbone. The demonstration provided a compelling example of how the 1394b standard can be used to link previously incompatible home networking systems. The 1394b backbone standard directly addresses the compatibility issues that have been an obstacle to home networking applications in the past. This demonstration of the Versatile Home Network featured products that have overcome the compatibility hurdle to provide real benefit to consumers. The reception featured a guided tour and working demonstration of products from various manufacturers communicating on a 1394b backbone and showcased high definition video, home controls, VoIP, telephony and more - all running over conventional wiring.
