PS Audio, an innovator for the last 30 years in developing superb high performance audio components at reasonable prices, introduced the latest in its family of innovative power delivery systems, the PS Audio Mini Lab Cable, at the 2001 CES.Identical in construction to, but smaller than the innovative Lab Cable introduced in 1999, the Mini Lab cable employs 10-gauge conductors rather than the 6-gauge conductors employed by the larger Lab Cable. The Mini is about half the diameter of the larger Lab Cable.Like the original Lab Cable, the Mini Lab Cable is a complete power delivery system applicable to both AC power and power amplifier outputs. As a speaker cable, the Mini Lab Cable delivers a level of full-bandwidth, no-loss, no-noise performance that the company believes to be unequaled by any cable in the world.Developed in PS Audioís own research laboratory, the original Lab Cable was designed as a reference power delivery system to test the companyís unique Power Plant line of AC power regenerating devices. However, once the Lab Cable had been developed and tested, PS Audio realized that no such cable existed in the current marketplace. The Mini Lab Cable brings to users the same reference quality performance as the original, but in a form that's thinner, more flexible, more versatile package, and more affordable. The Mini Lab Cable can deliver full power to any A/V system, while maintaining nearly -70dB of low noise AC power delivery.A key aspect of the Mini Lab Cableís design focuses on shielding. Shielding is critical in any power delivery system, particularly in-wall situations where wire lengths exceed 10 feet. To achieve PS Audioís goal of a minimum RF and EMI rejection figure of -70dB, two shields are woven over each of the Mini Lab Cableís two power conductors. Both shielded power conductors are further protected from RF and EMI radiated fields with another woven copper braid over the entire cable assembly. This triaxial shielding arrangement lowers induced noise by a minimum of -70dB, whereas -24dB is considered excellent. The shielding, combined with proper termination, can result in a measurable improvement of both audio and video systems.Standard lengths for AC cables will be three feet, four feet, six feet, and nine feet. AC Mini Lab Cables will be terminated with the same receptacles from Marinco as is the original Lab Cable. Prices for the Mini Labs start at just $150 for the three footer. The Mini Lab Cable is available terminated as an AC power cord or terminated as a speaker cable, and is also available in lengths of 20 feet and more as bulk wiring for in-wall applications. OEM pricing on the cable and termination is available directly through PS Audio. For additional information, visit PS Audioís Web site at www.psaudio.com.
