Crestron Electronics is featuring one of the key elements to its whole-house audio distribution solution - the CNAMPX-16x60 Intelligent Audio Amplifier - at the 2001 International CES. With Crestron Homeô, homeowners simply get the best multi-zone audio distribution system available. Within one second of selecting an audio source, the CNAMPX lets you hear the sound youíve selected, or informs you why you canít by triggering messages via touchpanel, e-mail or your pager.The first residential audio amplifier with built-in intelligence to diagnose system problems, the CNAMPX features an impressive power rating of 60 watts per channel into an 8-ohm load (90 watts into 4 ohms). The 16-channel CNAMPX provides remote system power on/off and remote zone on/off capabilities. The amplifier runs over a Crestron control network (Cresnet) and should typically be installed in addition to the Crestron CNX-PAD8 distributed audio switcher. Intuitive like most Crestron products, the CNAMPX-16x60 amplifier reports any electrical fault within itself or from a speaker load. The voltage from each speaker terminal is monitored and ambient temperature within the enclosure is reported via Cresnet and is available as Fahrenheit or Celsius. These signals can be used to reduce the audio volume, activate an external cooling fan or turn the unit off under program control.Ample power is provided to the eight two-channel amplifier modules by highly efficient transformers. Crestronís Detachable Modular Component design of the eight modules allows for rapid repair in the field. Both channels of each module have its own power supply and filter capacitors that produce enhanced dynamic range.
