VM Labs made public plans for the first NUONô-enhanced DVD movie title - Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment's ""Bedazzled"" Special Edition DVD, starring Brendan Fraser and Elizabeth Hurley. NUON technology has been embedded into the DVD software in order to provide a greater interactive experience for consumers. The ""Bedazzled"" DVD will be available March 13, 2001 at a suggested retail price of $26.98. ""Incorporating NUON into the DVD release of ëBedazzledí will allow fans of the film - and the format - a much more robust entertainment experience,"" noted Peter Staddon, Fox's Senior Vice President of Sell-Thru Marketing. ""We're proud to be the first studio to embrace this promising new technology."" Extra features on the ""Bedazzled"" DVD made possible by NUON include: - Dynamic book marking of scenes from the film along thematic lines. Examples include digest versions of commentaries by director Harold Ramis and Hurley, character studies of the supporting actors and a fashion show of Hurley's wardrobe.- Pre-selected close-up zooms of interesting scene elements, combined with background text highlighting the story behind the scenes.- An enhanced gallery of concept art and set design stills, displayed in contrast with their counterpart clips in the film.- A dynamic chapter select feature that displays a full motion video thumbnail view of a chapter, combined with a written scene description, so users can easily determine where they want to enter the movie.""Fox realized the benefit of NUON technology from the creative perspective - and they got there first with ëBedazzled,í"" said Paul Culberg, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of VM Labs. ""This technology provides seemingly endless entertainment possibilities. I anticipate NUON will stimulate the studios in their creative process and as a result even more advanced features will evolve."" NUON allows a studio to offer extra assets to movie viewers with minimal additional production time. Powerful NUON assets are programmed to require little memory on a DVD. All of the NUON enhanced content on ""Bedazzled"" takes up less than 4MB of memory and won't slow the player down. Fox's ""Bedazzled"" is a standard DVD that will play on any DVD player. The NUON content can be accessed by using any NUON compatible hardware. The first NUON enhanced DVD players from Samsung and Toshiba made their debut in fall of 2000 and additional manufacturers including Orient Power Multimedia and LGE Corp. have also announced plans for NUON DVD players. DVD players with the powerful NUON technology offer a variety of new video entertainment features, including on-demand user interfaces, filtered zooms, ultra-smooth forward and reverse shuttles, specialized film format fitting, dazzling videophile effects, stunning visuals generated to accompany the beat of any audio disc, the capacity to play interactive software and more. Standard DVD movies can be viewed in new ways with a DVD player that has NUON at its core. NUON game software and peripherals that are compatible with NUON DVD players are also already in the marketplace. For more information about VM Labs or NUON, visit www.nuon.tv.
