27-Feb-01

The Training Dept. has just announced a new video training course in the Home Technology Series titled ""Residential Retrofit Wiring."" It provides dealers and installers the best in training on wiring installation in existing homes. The approximately three-hour video set features industry experts Grayson Evans and Helen Heneveld and was filmed in a ""This Old House"" style. It takes you through three complete residential retrofit wiring projects, each a different house construction type. The first home, built around 1925 in Grand Rapids, Michigan is balloon construction with plastered cement board interior wall coverings. In Austin, Texas, the two-story, split-level, platform construction house was built about 1945 and has several additions. The final home in Tucson, Arizona has no attic or crawl space, a flat roofline and is concrete block with brick veneer built on a cement slab. Wiring installed included telephone, TV/cable, computer network, music, and security. All three houses presented challenges for wiring and how they were overcome are shown in detail in the training video. ""With all the new technologies available today such as computer networks and music throughout the home, wires are needed to take advantage of many of them. This video course teaches everything an installer needs to know to perform successful retrofit wiring installations. Our courses allow low cost, self-paced instruction when and where it is needed,"" says company President Grayson Evans. The $195 two-tape set covers basic principles of house construction, house framing types, retrofit tools, and retrofit installation techniques. The course comes with a workbook that contains all graphic and reference material and an examination so installation companies can test how well employees understand the material. The video training project was sponsored by CDA (Copper Development Association), Carlon, Cable Plus, Elan Home Systems, Genesis Cable Systems, Greyfox, CABA (Continental Automated Building Association), CEA (Consumer Electronics Association), CEDIA (Custom Electronic Design and Installation Association), and SIA (Security Industry Association).
