On Saturday, March 10, Broadway Television Network (BTN) launched BroadwayCinemaô with the exhibition of the long-running Broadway hit ""Jekyll & Hyde: The Musical"" starring David Hasselhoff in seven cinemas across the county, marking the first non-film program distributed for digital cinema display. The live-in-performance recording was encoded using DolbyÆ E technology, with the technical assistance of engineers from Dolby's New York office. ""We want our viewers to experience the production as if they were in the audience of the actual live performance,"" said Bruce Brandwen, President, BTN. ""To achieve the highest audio quality, we encoded the performance with Dolby E technology, and with the help of Dolby's technicians we've got a spectacular audio presentation to complement the brilliant high definition picture."" Audio encoded in Dolby E can withstand the multiple encode/decode cycles required in audio production and distribution, plus the audio frames match the video frames for smooth, glitch-free edits. Designed to ease the transition from two-channel to multichannel audio, Dolby E's use is expanding into other industries that require high quality multichannel audio mixing and playback, such as digital cinema. To help make multichannel broadcasts successful, Dolby Laboratories offers its customers technical assistance to ensure viewers the best multichannel audio mix possible. For the BroadwayCinema exhibitions of ""Jekyll & Hyde: The Musical,"" Dolby's New York office provided encoding, mastering, and layback support in the recording and post production stages of the presentation. ""Dolby is an end-to-end solution for multichannel audio for broadcasters,"" said Tom Daily, Director of Marketing, Broadcast Products, Dolby Laboratories. ""Dolby E technology is the best solution for high quality multichannel mixes that are going to be broadcast over typical stereo media, like an AES pair. In addition, we provide assistance to our broadcasters and post production facilities to make sure their audio mixes are the best they can be. We are thrilled to be part of this 'first' for the broadcast and digital cinema industries, and look forward to supporting the two industries through Dolby E and Dolby Laboratories' technical support."" ""Our office in New York is readily accessible to help New York-based broadcasters and post production houses achieve optimal multichannel audio mixes with ease and precision"" adds Michael DiCosimo, Vice President, East Coast Division, Dolby Laboratories.
