15-Mar-01

The new Harman Kardon AVR 8000, introduced at the 2001 CES, is among the worldís most advanced home theatre receivers. This THXÆ Ultra certified receiver is an ultimate-performance component featuring virtually every multichannel surround format available, including THX Surround EXô, DTSÆ-ESô Discrete and Matrix 6.1-channel decoding, DTS Neo:6ô, DolbyÆ Digital and Dolby Surround Pro Logic II, and MP3 decoding. In addition, the AVR 8000 includes two proprietary technologies developed by Harman International: one is VMAxÆ, and the other is the 7.1 version of Logic 7Æ. The AVR 8000 features two VMAx modes and is the first and only receiver to include the 7.1 version of Logic 7. Additional audio enhancements include 24-bit, 192kHz audio capability employing latest-generation DSP engines and high-end 115dB audiophile-grade output DACs, HDCDÆ processing, and much more. Along with the most advanced digital audio technologies, the AVR 8000 offers the most extensive complement of high-end performance and convenience features of any Harman Kardon A/V receiver. The AVR 8000 is supplied with Harman Kardonís patented, breakthrough EzSetô remote, which includes a built-in sound pressure level measuring and calibration system that enables the user to automatically balance speaker channel levels for optimum surround sound listening, regardless of the playback format. Setting speaker levels is one of the most critical adjustments for proper movie soundtrack reproduction, and the EzSet remote makes the process accurate and virtually foolproof for maximum sonic benefits. Additional AVR 8000 refinements include high bandwidth, HDTV-compatible component video switching, front panel analog A/V jacks with switchable input/output capability, front panel coaxial and optical digital input and output jacks, multi-room/multi-zone capability with a second-zone remote, and other advanced features. The AVR 8000 meets the stringent standards required for THX Ultra certification and features Harman Kardonís renowned high current, ultra-wide bandwidth design, delivering 100 watts into each of five channels (20Hz-20kHz at 8 ohms, greater than 0.07% THD, all channels driven) with more than 80 amps of high current capability for clear, authoritative reproduction of even the most demanding movie soundtracks and musical program material. The AVR 8000 will be available in Spring 2001, at a suggested retail price of $2199.
