The Innovations awards program is the industryís most recognized, honoring excellence in the latest designs and concepts in consumer electronics. The CDR 30 includes a unique complement of advanced features, such as playback of MP3-encoded CDs, an Automatic Digital Level Control that automatically normalizes varying levels from different digital recordings when creating a CD mix, built-in HDCDÆ decoding, and much more. The unique CDR 30 offers, exceptional sonic performance and unmatched recording flexibility. In addition, Harman Kardon offers a value-priced CDR 20 CD Recorder, which includes many of the features found in the award-winning CDR 30, including its 4x speed recording capability and the FL 8380 Carousel CD Changer, a high-performance five-disc HDCD-compatible CD changer, at a suggested retail price of just $299. Tom McLoughlin, Harman Kardon President, points out: ""Our new CD recorders build upon Harman Kardonís position of leadership and innovation in home CD recording. We were the first company to introduce a 4x speed CD recorder, and the first to include professional-grade 24-bit/96kHz DACs in a CD-R/RW unit for superior audio performance - and we have been instrumental in establishing the dual-well CD configuration as the home audio CD recorder of choice. With the introduction of the CDR 30, Harman Kardon redefines the state of the art in CD recorders once again, introducing MP3 functionality and other advanced capabilities that represent a dramatic leap forward in home audio CD recording performance and flexibility."" The CDR 30: The Ultimate Home CD Recording Deck The Harman Kardon CDR 30 is the most versatile audio CD recorder available, providing users with the ability to easily create custom CDs from a variety of digital and analog sources and MP3 music files, and it incorporates the most advanced digital audio technologies for the highest fidelity CD recording and playback. The CDR 30ís built-in MP3 decoder plays and decodes MP3-encoded CDs, and also creates play-ready standard ""Red Book"" CDs from MP3 discs that may be played on any standard CD player or CD-ROM drive. The CDR 30 also offers unsurpassed recording quality when dubbing digital audio sources, such as CD, MiniDisc, or DAT, thanks to its built-in auto-sensing sampling rate converter that automatically converts digital audio recorded at sampling rates other than 44.1kHz to CD standard audio. This capability allows direct digital-to-digital recording from most consumer and professional digital sources. During conventional CD-to-CD dubbing, the CDR 30 automatically bypasses the sampling rate converter for best sound quality. The CDR 30 copies all digital information contained on a CD, including HDCD encoding and DTSÆ Digital Surroundô data. In addition, the CDR 30 is the first home audio CD deck that can copy multisession CDs. (Multisession CDs contain tracks recorded at different times before disc finalization.) The Harman Kardon CDR 30 offers a host of features that makes recording digital and analog sources fast and virtually foolproof. The CDR 30 performs CD-to-CD-R and CD-RW dubbing at 4x speed, along with 4x disc finalization - the fastest CD dubbing and finalization in the industry. The CDR 30ís dual-tray operation makes the process easy - simply load the CD to be dubbed into the play-only disc tray, and place a blank CD-R or CD-RW audio disc into the play-record disc tray, and the CDR 30 initiates recording at the touch of a few buttons. The CDR 30ís Automatic Digital Recording Level Control automatically normalizes varying levels from different digital recordings when creating a CD mix, with no loss in fidelity. This function also virtually eliminates the possibility of recording a disc with overload distortion on peak volume passages, resulting from too high a recording level. To accommodate the widest variety of music sources, the CDR 30 includes the most comprehensive variety of digital and analog inputs of any CD recorder available, including three sets of rear panel coaxial digital, optical digital and analog inputs, plus front panel coaxial and optical digital inputs. The CDR 30ís coaxial and optical digital outputs enable its digital audio output to be played through the digital input of a receiver or preamp/processor, or a separate, external high-end D/A converter, and analog outputs are included for connection to a receiver or preamp. The CDR 30 also features a headphone jack with level control for private listening. Along with outstanding recording flexibility, the CDR 30 is designed for unmatched sound quality. The CDR 30 incorporates AKM 24-bit/96kHz AK4393 D/A converters and an AKM AK5351 20-bit, 64x oversampling A/D converter to achieve audiophile-grade recording and playback. These state-of-the-art converters utilize AKMís innovative multibit delta-sigma technology to achieve a remarkable 105dB dynamic range with exceptionally high resolution. In addition, the CDR 30 utilizes premium components throughout for maximum sonic purity, along with precision optics and disc mechanisms for accurate, glitch-free CD recording and playback. To further enhance CD playback quality, the CDR 30 includes a built-in HDCD decoder that allows listeners to enjoy the full sonic benefits of the improved resolution, dynamic range and musical realism provided by the HDCD format. Thanks to its precision digital filter, the HDCD decoder also improves the sound quality of conventional non-HDCD-encoded CDs. The CDR 30 offers an extensive array of convenience features and CD playback and programming functions, such as MP3 and CD Text display capability, a Direct Single Track Dubbing function that allows recording an individual track from a CD at the touch of a button with no programming required, an easy-to- read fluorescent level meter, a wide variety of repeat, random and program playback options, full remote control operation, and more. Finalized CD-R and CD-RW discs, as well as prerecorded CDs, can be played back in either of the CDR 30ís disc trays. The CDR 30 is fully compliant with the SCMS Serial Copy Management System, which limits digital copying to one generation. The Harman Kardon CDR 30 carries a suggested retail price of $699 and is currently shipping. The Harman Kardon CDR 20: Exceptional CD Recording Performance And Value The Harman Kardon CDR 20 CD recorder includes many of the outstanding performance and convenience features of the CDR 30, at a price that reflects exceptional value in a high-end home audio CD deck. In common with the CDR 30, the CDR 20 offers both CD-R and CD-RW recording capability, 4x CD dubbing, dual-tray-dubbing convenience, direct digital-to-digital recording from any digital source using its built-in sampling rate converter, full remote control operation, and many additional advanced features. The CDR 20 includes an extensive complement of digital and analog inputs and outputs to accommodate any digital and analog music source, and incorporates the same premium AKM 24-bit/96kHz D/A and A/D converters as the CDR 30 for exceptional sound quality. (Suggested retail price: $549)
