Harman Kardon Expands Its Multichannel Amplifier Lineup With Introduction Of PA 4000 Multipurpose Power Amplifier

15-Mar-01

Harman Kardon has announced the introduction of its PA 4000 multipurpose power amplifier, a configurable eight-channel power amplifier designed to deliver exceptional performance in a wide range of applications, including home theatre and music system installations, multi-room, multi-zone installations, or anywhere a superb-sounding, highly versatile amplifier is required. The PA 4000 may be employed in a variety of system configurations to function as the amplifier for a complete multichannel home theatre system, power multiple listening rooms in multi-zone applications, or drive stereo loudspeakers in a bi-amplified configuration. The PA 4000ís eight channels of amplification make it particularly well-suited for use with 7.1-channel surround processors featuring THXÆ Surround EXô, DTSÆ -ESô and Logic 7Æ 7.1 decoding. Designed with custom installation applications in mind, the PA 4000 includes two sets of parallel input and output jacks, which allow several PA 4000 amplifiers to be cascaded and linked together in complex multi-zone and whole-house installations, as well as permit simultaneous multi-room and surround sound use. Harman Kardon is world-renowned for its high current, ultra-wide bandwidth amplifier technology, and the PA 4000 utilizes the companyís proven power amplifier topologies to deliver clean, detailed and dynamic sound quality when reproducing the most demanding digital movie soundtracks and music program material. The PA 4000 delivers 45 watts of power to each of its eight channels (20Hz-20kHz at 8 ohms, less than 0.07% THD and +/-45 amps current capacity), and may also be bridged to provide two channels x 100 watts power output, plus four channels of 45-watt amplification. The PA 4000ís high current output section makes it ideal for use in installations where extremely long speaker cable runs (up to 150 feet) are employed. Even at this significant distance, the PA 4000 operates with no instability or degradation in sound quality, while maintaining the benefits of Harman Kardonís ultra-wide bandwidth design. The PA 4000ís gold-plated, five-way speaker terminals are larger and more robust than those on other products in this price class, enabling the use of audiophile-quality speaker cable up to 12 AWG thickness. The Harman Kardon PA 4000 includes a number of additional refinements that facilitate its use in the widest variety of home entertainment systems and custom installations. Each amplifier channel pair is equipped with a level trim control, allowing precise adjustment of input levels with any source component or in any multichannel installation. In multi-room applications, the PA 4000 offers a wide variety of volume control options, including fixed output level for use with remote room autoformer-type controls, or, in the most versatile configuration, the PA 4000 enables individual remote room locations to control power on/off, as well as volume, directly from optional IR sensors. For the ultimate in flexibility, two separate input channel pairs enable the PA 4000 to function as two amplifiers in one: as a high power surround channel amplifier in conjunction with 7.1 channel receivers, such as the AVR 8000, while simultaneously powering a second, separate remote-zone system at the same time a separate input is used. The PA 4000ís versatility extends to the power on/off control, with the user able to choose between a conventional front panel switch, commands received from optional remote room IR sensors, low voltage DC trigger signals from processors or multi-room controllers, or Music Sense circuitry that automatically turns the PA 4000 on or off in response to the presence of audio signals. The PA 4000 is designed for foolproof, safe operation and includes sophisticated protection circuitry. The Harman Kardon PA 4000 will be available in late spring 2001, at a suggested retail price of $899.
