The Custom Electronic Design and Installation Association (CEDIA) announced that more than 350 professionals are now certified through CEDIA's Professional Certification (CPC) Program since the testing program was launched in 2000. The latest group of professionals to pass through the certification program completed testing during a recent CEDIA regional education session from January 28-29, 2001 in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. In 1998, the CEDIA Board of Directors initiated a certification task force to implement a certification system that would reinforce CEDIA's founding intent of promoting industry growth through the development of its practitioners. The CPC task force defined the format of CEDIA's overall certification program into two sequences with each sequence having two testing levels. Testing segments include Installer Level I, Installer Level II, Designer Level I, and Designer Level II.The goals of the certification program include:- Establishing new benchmarks for knowledge, performance and professionalism to meet the increasing complex needs of CEDIA's members and clients.- Promoting the expansion of the entire custom electronics industry by attracting an increasing number of new hires, to meet the ever-expanding needs of CEDIA's member companies.- Enhancing the development of the work force to assure continued growth of the custom electronics industry.""Education will always remain at the top of this association's long list of priorities,"" said Billilynne Keller, CEDIA's Executive Director. ""The CPC program is contributing to a larger network of qualified, well-informed technicians. Interest in the CPC program is a very promising sign for the entire industry.""For professionals interested in obtaining certification, CPC prep courses have been added to CEDIA's educational curriculum. Prep courses and testing is being offered at all 2001 CEDIA Regional Education events. A list of recommended CEDIA courses and recommended reading material is published in CEDIA's Regional Education brochure.
