Zenith DVD Offerings For 2001 Include Recordable And Portable Digital Video Machines

A DVD-Video player that records crisp digital images, a portable DVD-Video player with a widescreen seven-inch liquid crystal display, and a series of progressive scan DVD players highlight Zenith Electronics Corporation's DVD line for 2001. Introduced at the 2001 Consumer Electronics Show, the six-model Zenith DVD player line reflects the company's aggressive new approach to the market with a range of higher end models and features designed to elevate the Zenith brand. Zenith also is introducing three DVD-Video player-television combinations. Topping the DVD deck line is the new Zenith DVR (digital video recorder), based on industry standard DVD-RW technology. This unit, which is expected to sell for under $3,000, records both DVD-RW video, and CD-R/RW digital audio. The DVR features 19 jacks, MP3 and HDCDÆ decoding, DolbyÆ Digital/DTV output and progressive scan playback. Zenith's DVR is planned for fall 2001 availability. The Zenith portable DVD-Video player features a seven-inch widescreen (16:9) LCD display, stereo speakers, virtual surround sound and Dolby Digital/DTSÆ Digital Surroundô support. Planned for availability in mid-2001, this unit is designed to play a variety of discs, including DVDs, CDs, CD-Rs and CD-RWs. It is expected to sell for under $1,000. The new Zenith DVD line also includes two true progressive scan decks - a $799 five-disc changer available in summer 2001 and a $599 single-disc unit available this spring. Rounding out the line are a basic $249 five-disc DVD-Video player planned for summer availability and a basic $159 single-disc unit available this spring. The DVD-TV combos come in 25-, 19- and 14-inch models. All three units are Dolby Digital/DTV ready, and feature twin focus pickup, marker/resume play, zoom, multi-play and repeat modes. Expected prices are $599 for the 25-inch model, $499 for the 19-inch model, and $449 for the 14-inch model, which uses a truly flat picture tube.
