Underscoring its commitment to becoming the digital technology leader, Zenith Electronics Corporation is rolling out its cutting-edge digital technology - highlighted by big, bright hang-on-the-wall plasma display panels (PDPs).At the 2001 Consumer Electronics Show, Zenith introduced one of the world's largest and most innovative PDPs - a 60-inch widescreen model capable of displaying digital high definition television (HDTV) images. The Zenith 60-inch PDP HDTV monitor delivers high resolution images on an ultra-thin, lightweight display panel with a screen as big as four 30 inch wide TVs combined. It also features a viewing angle of 160 degrees. The giant PDP is designed to produce whiter whites and enhanced blacks than previously possible, achieving an impressive contrast ratio of 350:1 and a peak brightness of 200cd/m2. This unit displays rich, full color images representing 256 grayscale definition and a color palette of 16.77 million colors.The Zenith 60-inch widescreen PDP features soft-touch screen controls and multi-functional remote for PDP operation. It also has an array of multimedia functions, enabling computer-generated text, graphics or video output to be displayed on the screen with outstanding image quality. The 60-inch HDTV monitor will be available to consumers mid-2001 at an expected price of $27,999.Also introduced at CES, was Zenith's new 42-inch widescreen enhanced definition television (EDTV) monitor plasma display with a super slim 3-inch-deep screen. With a peak brightness of 310cd/m2 and a contrast ratio over 500:1, the EDTV monitor plasma display offers a 160-degree viewing angle. Available in the fourth quarter of 2001, the 42-inch EDTV monitor is expected to sell for $7,499.Zenith's 40-inch EDTV monitor plasma display will be available in late 2001. This 4:3 monitor offers peak luminance enhancement and highest peak brightness of 370cd/m2. Pricing has not yet been announced.Consumers can look for the 36-inch Zenith widescreen EDTV monitor plasma display in fall 2001. Similar to the 42-inch and 40-inch EDTVs, the 36-inch monitor is fan- and noise-free. The 3-inch-deep screen offers peak brightness of 250cd/m2 and a high contrast ratio of 400:1.
