26-Mar-01

Dolby Laboratories marked the grand opening of its new Burbank, California office with a gala reception to showcase the company's state-of-the-art facility, which is designed to be the focal point of Dolby's service commitment to the Hollywood entertainment community. Dolby's new Burbank office, located at 3601 W. Alameda Avenue at Hollywood Way, has undergone major renovation to accommodate the needs of the company's Los Angeles operations, and is more than triple the size of the former Dolby office on Barham Boulevard. Designed by Rothenburg Sawasy Architects, the 1989 building has 21,000 square feet on two floors, plus two levels of parking. In addition to office space for Dolby's Los Angeles staff, the building contains a screening room, project and home theatre rooms, conference rooms, and event space. ""We're delighted to open up and show off our new Hollywood facility to the industry,"" said David W. Gray, Vice President, Hollywood Film Division. ""Our new location in the heart of the entertainment industry's working center means that we will be more accessible than ever to our enormous Los Angeles client base."" The 49-seat Larry Umlang Presentation Theatre II is equipped for both film and video using the latest technology for projection and 5.1 surround sound playback. The theatre ""floats"" on a system of neoprene blocks within the building's structure, ensuring that no noise from the external environment is allowed into the room. Also equipped for double system playback, the theatre was designed by David W. Gray and Douglas Greenfield of Dolby, David R. Schwind, Charles Salter & Associates, and Nick Ybarra and Max Williams, Rothenburg Sawasy Architects. A project room equipped for audio testing and experimentation, as well as in-house production of demo materials, and a home theatre equipped with new HDTV and DVD systems were also on display at the grand opening event. Dolby executives from the company's corporate headquarters in San Francisco, including founder and Chairman Ray Dolby and President Bill Jasper attended the gala. The party was anchored in the building's 1,400 square-foot event space surrounding the theatre, and catered by Along Came Mary. The Larry Umlang Presentation Theatre II and the event space are available for industry events. Please call 818-823-2800 for more information.
