Tripath Launches New Class-T Digital Amplifiers

The TA2022 And TA3020 Utilizes Patented Digital Power Processing Technology For Improved Efficiency And Signal Fidelity

26-Mar-01

Tripath Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: TRPH), creators of Digital Power Processing (DPPô) technology, announced the launch of its 2 x 90W TA2022 and 2 x 350W TA3020 Class-Tô Digital Audio Amplifiers for the consumer electronics market. These two new 1-bit, digital audio amplifiers provide a breakthrough level of power and fidelity in a highly-integrated single package. The addition of these two products to Tripathís digital amplifier lineup results in the broadest range of power levels available in the industry, from 10W to over 2000W per channel. Tripath uses its patented DPP technology to create products that are shipping today in high volume to industry leaders in a broad range of applications. Customers include consumer audio companies like Sony, Marantz, and Carver, PC and Internet companies like Apple and Dell, and automotive audio companies like Blaupunkt and Alpine. DPP incorporates a 1-bit Delta-Sigma DAC with a sampling frequency of 50Mhz, together with proprietary signal processing algorithms to provide uncompromised fidelity and unsurpassed power efficiency. The new TA2022 Digital Audio Amplifier delivers two channels of 90W power into 4 ohms with less than 0.1% THD+N. This performance comes in a single 32-pin SSIP package. This breakthrough provides a threefold increase in power over what can be achieved with traditional analog amplifiers with no compromise in audio fidelity. In a bridged configuration this single package can deliver up to 235W into 8 ohms. Operating at 90 percent efficiency, the TA2022 saves money on power supplies and heat sinks and enables sleek product designs that are impossible to achieve with conventional analog amplifiers. The stereo TA2022 is currently shipping and is priced at $16 in 1000-piece quantities. The TA3020 is a two-channel digital audio amplifier driver that when combined with a range of external power FETs can deliver up to 350W of power into 4 ohms at 0.1% THD+N. The TA3020 is the perfect alternative to conventional analog amplifiers in the 100W, 8-ohm A/V receiver market, delivering 0.03% THD+N at an efficiency of 95 percent. This level of performance opens new possibilities for reducing the size of these A/V receivers or radically changing the shape of this market, by allowing this A/V receiver functionality to be incorporated with other home entertainment functions to create new classes of products. In a bridged configuration, the TA3020 can provide 1200W. Pricing for the TA3020 is $14 for 1000-piece quantities. ""The power levels, efficiency and fidelity we have achieved with TA2022 and TA3020 position Tripath in the mainstream of the consumer audio market and open tremendous opportunities for companies to create new classes of home entertainment products,"" said Neal Carney, Vice President of Marketing at Tripath. ""The digital nature of Tripathís Class-T amplifiers will enable an end-to-end digital solution from the proliferation of digital source material like DVDs, SACDs, MP3 and future digital streaming media formats all the way to the speaker.""
