Parasound Outsiders Heat Up The Sounds On Your Patio

27-Mar-01

Parasound has introduced its Outsiders line of premium outdoor loudspeakers intended for use around pools, decks, and patios, or indoors. The line consists of two models, Outsiders S (Small) and Outsiders L (Large), which are designed to provide both high quality sound and all-weather durability. To achieve this goal, Parasound's designers combined the proven weather-resistant design of the company's recent Nomad series with new Kevlar woofer cones with phase plugs, aluminum dome tweeters, a more refined crossover circuit, and new mounting brackets. The all-weather durability of Parasound all-weather speakers has been clearly demonstrated at the outdoor penguin and marine mammal exhibits at the Mystic Aquarium in Connecticut. After several winters exposed to freezing and the damp, salt air of the New England seacoast, they are still working perfectly to provide highly intelligible sound to inform and entertain the visitors. The Outsiders' heavily braced cabinets are made of mineral-filled polypropylene, and the grilles and mounting hardware are corrosion-resistant pure stainless steel. The Outsiders use a convenient new mounting bracket that is easy to install and provides a wide range of mounting angles. Both brackets and cabinets may be repainted any color. The speakers use heavy-duty five-way terminals that are gold-plated to maintain optimal connections through years of outdoor use. The Outsiders are both two-way designs with 4.5-inch and 5.25-inch Kevlar woofers, respectively. These low mass, high rigidity woofer cones include phase plugs for more uniform response, Butyl rubber surrounds, and powerful strontium-ferrite magnets to deliver cleaner, deeper bass, and higher sound levels than are typically available in similarly compact enclosures. The aluminum dome tweeters are Ferrofluid cooled for high power handling, and they offer excellent off-axis dispersion. The crossover network, which channels the bass to the woofer and the treble to the tweeter, uses 12dB/octave low-pass and high-pass filters with premium polypropylene capacitors, and high quality air core and iron core inductors for greater clarity and reduced distortion. Parasound's Outsider Small and Outsider Large are now available with suggested retail prices of $250 per pair and $450 per pair, respectively. Parasound designs and builds sensible, high value audio equipment intended to produce an extraordinary listening experience. This privately owned U.S. company is celebrating its 20th anniversary during 2001. For more information, visit www.parasound.com.
