DolbyÆ Laboratories will showcase its most advanced pro audio technology products on Stand Q11 at the 110th AES Convention, held May 12-15 May at RAI in Amsterdam. There will be demonstrations of the DP570 and DM100, and also Advanced Audio Coding (AAC) technology for secure Internet music delivery. Products on display for the first time in Europe include the Dolby EX-EU4 encoder and EX-DU4 decoder, and a new version of the DP569 Dolby Digital encoder.""Dolby's latest professional products, including our new DP570 and DM100 units, are key components for anyone who is producing multichannel audio for digital TV or DVD,"" said Peter Cole, Sales and Marketing Manager, Broadcast, for Dolby Laboratories. ""This year's AES Convention presents us with a fantastic opportunity to show the power of these tools to the audio production community.""DP570 Multichannel Audio ToolVisitors to Dolby Laboratories' stand will be able to see the DP570 working in the studio environment, within an end-to-end multichannel solution that enables broadcasters to create, manage, and transmit multichannel audio to the consumer. In addition, they will be treated to a thrilling, cinema-like experience, and witness the full capability of the Dolby Digital 5.1 system as it is used on DVD and digital television today. The Dolby DP570 Multichannel Audio Tool is a cost-effective, two-unit rack space unit that greatly simplifies the process of creating Dolby Digital metadata and monitoring multichannel audio. The processor allows the user to hear the effect of metadata in real-time, while preparing soundtracks for ultimate delivery as Dolby Digital bit streams. It interfaces easily with existing audio consoles and workstations, and requires minimal operational effort from the audio professional. The unit allows system integrators and service engineers to quickly test the integrity and composition of these bit streams in production facilities, broadcast facilities, and home cinema systems.""Our new DM100 can decode Dolby Digital and Dolby E bit streams, as well as PCM audio, and it can also generate test streams in these formats,"" said Mr. Cole. ""This makes it an invaluable tool for anyone involved with multichannel audio.""Daily demonstrations will be held at Dolby Laboratories' stand.Advanced Audio CodingThe company will also be demonstrating at AES the capabilities of AAC, the latest secure Internet music delivery technology. Advanced Audio Coding (AAC) is a next-generation perceptual audio coder that uses advanced signal processing techniques and psychoacoustic models to faithfully reproduce audio recordings at ultra-low data rates. A variety of audio material will be presented at several bit rates ranging from 128kbps (stereo) to 48kbps (mono). Listeners will be able to perform quick comparisons between the original PCM and the various AAC encoded bitstreams.Dolby Laboratories licenses AAC on behalf of the co-developers/licensors of the technology, and also provides licensees with reference code and tools to aid in the development of AAC encoders and decoders.Further information on AAC can be found at www.aac-audio.com.Surround EXô ProductsDolby Laboratories will be launching two new Surround EXô products at AES. These are designed for recording, mixing, postproduction, and DVD authoring facilities to create and monitor the surround channels of a production destined to be encoded in Dolby Digital Surround EX. The EX-EU4 encoder is usually used during mixing with a decoder for monitoring. The EX-DU4 decoder is also used in final audio encoding and quality control, to monitor the Dolby Digital Surround EX soundtrack.DP569 Version 2.0This updated DP569 Dolby Digital multichannel encoder features a new front panel with an elastomeric keypad, and aluminium chassis to reduce weight, aid cooling and increase usability. Additionally, a new menu system simplifies navigation. New features include a Dolby Digital Surround EX flag, additional downmixing settings, new presets, automatic data rate selection, a delay word for multiplexers, and of course, improvements in audio coding quality. Existing DP569 users can also receive version 2.0 software free by registering at www.dolby.com/tvaudio.For more information about Dolby Laboratories or Dolby technologies, visit www.dolby.com.
