Atlantic Technology has introduced a high quality speaker system designed to work as well with the new multichannel audio recordings as it does with movies. The new Atlantic Technology System T 90, which was developed from the T 70 system introduced in July, includes dedicated center, left and right front, and surround speakers, as well as a 150-watt powered subwoofer. The T 90 offers exceptional sound quality, yet the speakers are small enough to fit unobtrusively into any decor. ""We were so pleased with the reaction to T 70,"" said Peter Tribeman, President of Atlantic Technology, ""that we decided to develop a step-up model with higher performance while maintaining a most affordable price tag. The T 90 is an exceptional speaker system that works as well with audiophile recordings as it does with movies. Weíre witnessing a growing trend to multichannel music recordings, particularly on DVD. These lose their impact on stereo systems and yet many home theatre systems are less than musically faithful. That's why we spent an inordinate amount of time voicing these speakers on music."" The Satellites The T 90's five satellite speakers are all two-way acoustic suspension designs in ultra-compact enclosures whose size and MDF construction make them acoustically inert. The very small T 90 LR front speakers deliver unusually natural sound with incredible imaging, due to their rigid enclosure and miniscule baffle. Their 5.25-inch woofer/midrange uses a new laminated Titanium Coated Molded Graphite (TCMG) cone, whose increased stiffness and enhanced heat dissipation allow high output, flat frequency response, impressive detail, and increased power handling. The injection-molded, graphite filled polymer based cone remains well damped for low distortion and minimal coloration. The LR includes an excellent 1-inch silk dome tweeter using Neodymium magnets and Ferrofluidô cooling. This proprietary tweeterís high frequency response is smooth, extended, and open, yet never harsh or spitty. The T 90 C center-channel speaker includes Atlanticís signature adjustable tilting base that lets you easily aim the speaker to attain maximum performance. It uses the same tweeter and two of the same woofer/midrange as the T 90 LRs. It also features a high frequency level control - ensuring that all three front speakers will have the same tonal balance. The T 90 SR surround speakers use Atlanticís new, sophisticated TriVectorô design which incorporates a single forward-firing woofer/midrange and two phase-compensated side-firing wide dispersion tweeters. The tweeters produce a diffuse, non-localizable soundfield that quickly draws you into the action, while the woofer/midrange produces a more localizable, direct sound pattern. The speakerís sloping front baffle makes it easy for the customer to aim the midrange either towards or away from the listening position, depending on their desire for more diffuse or more localizable surround sounds. This combination makes the T 90 SR ideally suited for almost any conceivable room location and excellent for todayís discrete digital multichannel systems. The T 90 SRís 5.25-inch woofer/midrange is the same TCMG driver used in the T 90 LR. The dual tweeters are 3/4-inch modified polymer dome units, each with fluid cooling and - important for surround - a dispersion-enhancing acoustic lens. The T 90 LR and SR have threaded rear inserts permitting easy wall mounting with the included keyhole hangers or optional, adjustable flex mounts. Powder-coated metal stands are also available for the LR and SR. The All-Important Subwoofer The T 90 PBM acoustic suspension subwoofer creates impressively solid and musical bass. Its custom-built 12-inch long-throw driver has a particularly stiff cone, made from a treated cellulose composite. The massive, magnetically shielded motor structure alone weighs over five pounds! A 2-inch, four-layer high-temperature voice coil and vented motor structure ensure high output and long-term reliability. Power is supplied by a 150-watt, custom-built, discrete component Class G amplifier precisely matched to this driver. Features include: signal sensing auto turn-on, an absolute phase (polarity) switch, controls for level (front mounted) and crossover frequency, and high and low level inputs and throughputs for easy connection to virtually any home theatre electronics. System T 90 is one of those ìI canít believe all that quality sound is coming from those tiny speakersî kind of packages. What makes it different is it truly reproduces excellent, low distortion sound with dynamics and clarity far beyond its size and price. Its powerful subwoofer and new TCMG drivers eliminate the common hole in response between 100 and 200Hz, typical of other ultra compact systems. Additionally, the new TriVector surrounds offer a level of involvement that will surprise even the most experienced of listeners. The System T 90 will be available in early May 2001 with a manufacturerís suggested retail price of $1699. For more information about Atlantic Technology, visit www.atlantictechnology.com.
