DISH Networkô (NASDAQ: DISH, DISHP) announced promotional programs for its new DishPVRô 501 satellite TV receiver, an integrated satellite TV receiver and personal video recorder that offers viewers the control to record up to 35 hours of TV without videotape. Viewers can also create instant replays, pause any show, or skip ahead 30 seconds at the touch of a button during prerecorded programming. Unveiled in January at the 2001 Consumer Electronics Show as the DISH Network Pro 501, the DishPVR 501 is now available for only $399 MSRP. But unlike most PVR-type products on the market today, DishPVR requires no special monthly fee. Further, as a special introductory offer, DishPVR is available now for only $200 for new customers who commit to a minimum of one year of programming at $39.98 per month. This offer is valid through May 31, 2001. In addition, starting May 1, new DISH Network customers will be able to get DishPVR without having to purchase any equipment. With the new DishPVR Plan, customers will get one DishPVR 501, one additional DISH Network receiver, America's Top 150 programming package, local TV channels (where available) and a free installation for two receivers for only $59.99 per month. The DishPVR Plan requires a 12-month commitment and a $49.99 set-up fee which covers the first month's plan payment. This offer expires December 31, 2001. DishPVR 501 also includes interactive TV services powered by OpenTV, offering an interactive Electronic Program Guide (EPG) providing features such as Instant Weather, which gives immediate access to weather conditions for nearly 1,000 U.S. cities.
