The Custom Electronics Design and Installation Association (CEDIA) will host the first-ever CEDIA Installer Olympics during CEDIA Expo 2001.CEDIA recently initiated a CEDIA Olympics Committee to organize a live competition during CEDIA EXPO, which test skills and endurance among the CEDIA membership of installers. The competition will consist of a variety of tests including: - The DSS Bullís Eye. In this event, installers will have only a compass, a level, and a time limit. Once the contestants are satisfied with their shot, the receiver will be turned on. The strongest level on the meter wins.- Video Calibration Shootout. A high definition television will be set up out of calibration. All factory settings will be set out of convergence. The contestants will have a set period of time to recalibrate the TV, and to set the video ISF standards. A panel of experts will judge the ""dial in."" The winner gets the TV.- Amp Toss. One big amplifier, one long distance, one big winner.- Gone Fishing. Fishing wire is an art. Getting wire to a location in a wall with an unknown structure inside can be difficult, and at the Expo it will be uniquely difficult. Contestants will have several fishing tasks that must be accomplished. These tasks will address the common hazard involved in the installersí everyday work of getting wires where they need to be. The team, or individual with the fastest time wins.- The Van Load. Participants will be challenged to load as many boxes as they can into a van. The team who loads the most boxes wins.In addition to the categories listed above, other ideas are currently being discussed. The CEDIA Olympic Committee is looking for additional suggestions for the competition which will showcase the installersí technical and athletic abilities. Suggestions are appreciated and can be forwarded to Jim Gross at info@customerelectronics.com. For more information about CEDIA, visit www.cedia.org.
