Experience The DolbyÆ DTV End-To-End Solution With New Products At NAB 2001

20-Apr-01

DolbyÆ Laboratories is demonstrating new professional audio technologies and products at the 2001 National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) show, April 21-26, at booth R2715 in the North Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC). In addition, Dolby staff will show six previously-released pro audio units and will host two discussions on multichannel audio in digital television broadcasting. Dolby is debuting the following products at the show: 24P Dolby E Coding Technology Post-production is migrating towards 24-frame acquisition and storage to maintain high quality across multiple delivery formats. To generate 23.98 or 24 fps Dolby E streams, the new DP579 Dolby E Tri-Level Sync Interface converts standard tri-level video sync into a Dolby Black reference (similar to standard black burst reference) for use with the DP571 and DP572 Dolby E encoder and decoder. A required software upgrade for the DP571 and DP572 will be available for all registered units at no charge. The DP579 will be available this fall. DP583 Dolby E And Dolby Digital Frame Synchronizer Broadcast, cable, and satellite industries need to synchronize externally generated Dolby E or Dolby Digital bit streams to match the internal plant timing. The DP583 accepts all Dolby E and Dolby Digital frame and data rates, as well as PCM inputs, and provides an output that has been reframed to match local plant reference. The DP583 also allows post-production facilities to record Dolby E streams to non-video formats, such as DAT. The DP583 will be available this fall. DP569 Dolby Digital Encoder With Version 2.0 Software New features include an improved menu system, a Dolby Digital Surround EXô flag, additional down-mixing settings, new compression profiles and presets, automatic data rate selection, a delay word for multiplexers, and improvements in audio coding quality. Existing DP569 users can receive version 2.0 software free by registering at www.dolby.com/tvaudio. Model 587 Multichannel Audio Converter Dolby's eight-channel 24-bit analog-to-digital (A/D) and digital-to-analog (D/A) converter is designed for broadcast applications. The A/D and D/A sections use custom, high performance 24-bit converter modules that operate at any sample rate between 30 and 50kHz. The Model 587 Multichannel Audio Converter will be available this June. In the Dolby 5.1 theatre, there will be clips from such well-known programs as ABC's ìNYPD Blue,î Showtime's ìStargate SG-1,î HBO's ìBoycott,î PBS' ìSahara,î and a Los Angeles Dodgers baseball game originally broadcast by KTLA.
