Path 1 First To Deliver Broadcast-Quality Video Over A Coast-To-Coast IP Network

24-Apr-01

Path 1 Network Technologies Inc. (Path 1, OTCBB: PNWK, Frankfurt: PNT) announced the initial deployment of its technology platform enabling broadcast-quality video transmission over an Internet Protocol (IP) network in a cross-country demonstration with a major U.S. Tier-1 Carrier. The demonstration links Los Angeles, New York and Atlanta, Georgia over a long-haul IP backbone network. Using Path 1 technology, the carrier is delivering stable MPEG-2, 4:2:2 video through legacy network equipment. Path 1 is the first company in the market to demonstrate that IP networks can be used reliably for high bandwidth, real-time applications such as video broadcast and video entertainment content transmission. Path 1 is demonstrating its systems technology platform at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) 2001 show. The company is located in booth E2830. ""Path 1 was able to reach this milestone with its in-depth experience in every phase of video transmission including studio, satellite, terrestrial fiber and cable,"" said Dr. Yendo Hu, Vice President of Path 1 Video Products. ""Most importantly, the Path 1 design and engineering team possesses exceptional knowledge and expertise in core broadcast industry technologies such as MPEG, redundant/fault-tolerant network design, and both routing and session protocols."" Path 1 Platform Highlights - Broadcast-quality video over IP - the new Path 1 platform enables high-resolution video transmission (both uncompressed serial digital interface (SDI) and compressed MPEG-2 4:2:2 or 4:2:0) over IP networks using patented technologies including traffic shaping and synchronization methods. - Flexible interfaces - Path 1 platforms support 270 Mbps SDI and single or multiple asynchronous serial interface (ASI) interfaces. - Gigabit speed rates - scalable rates range from 10/100 Base TX to Gigabit Ethernet, allowing greater flexibility over varying bandwidths. - LAN and WAN support - with the Path 1 platform, broadcast-quality video transmission is available for both local-area and wide-area networks. - Legacy equipment compatible - there is no new technology investment needed for routers or switches since the Path 1 platform is compatible with legacy equipment in existing IP networks. - Customization available - as a systems developer of both hardware and software, Path 1 is able to adapt its platform to meet specialized market and customer needs.
