Sonic Solutions (NASDAQ: SNIC) announced at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) convention a collaboration with Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd, (MEI) to integrate the DVD-Audio authoring system developed by MEI into Sonic's industry-leading DVD production systems. Sonic was the first to bring commercial DVD-Audio production to the market, and the collaboration with MEI will extend Sonic's offering to yield a complete set of feature-rich, productivity-enhancing tools that will assist audio and video professionals in creating the first wave of DVD-Audio titles for the retail market. ""We are extremely pleased to be working with MEI, who played an important role in determining the DVD-Audio specification. Including the MEI toolkit in our product line will ensure that our DVD-Audio authoring systems continue to provide the most extensive range of features as well as offer the top performance that our customers have come to expect,"" said Yuki Miyamoto, Director of Business Development at Sonic. The integration of MEI's DVD-Audio authoring interface with Sonic's DVD-Video and audio production technology will enable professional production facilities to dramatically increase their throughput of DVD-Audio titles. The complete toolset is designed to adhere strictly to the DVD-Audio specification, and will benefit from both Sonic's and MEI's extensive involvement with hardware player manufacturers in performing extensive compatibility testing during the early days of the DVD-Audio format. ""We at Matsushita believe that our DVD-Audio toolkit is the best available technology to use based on our experience in DVD-Video authoring, already in use by leading studios for producing high quality DVD movie titles,"" said Mr. Kazuhiro Tsuga, Deputy Director of the Multimedia Development Center at Matsushita Electric Industrial.
