18-May-01

According to CE Pro magazine, revenues for the largest 50 firms in the residential systems integration field have grown an incredible 68 percent in the past two years. These critical figures, which were released as part of CE Pro's fourth annual Top 50 list of residential systems integrators in its May 2001 issue, are indicative of the prosperity of this burgeoning industry. The statistics show: - Top 50 companies boast a combined gross revenue of $246 million in fiscal year 2000 - Top 50 Firms have grown 68 percent in the past two years - Average company earned $4.6 million in fiscal year 2000 - Average residential electronics installation topped $11,000 There are several factors for the sharp increase in these figures, according to CE Pro Editor Jason Knott. ""Our in-depth research affirms the public's interest in professionally installed home electronics is sharply on the rise. Integrators have seen a sizeable upswing in the demand for the latest home audio & video products, security systems and home offices. These companies have flourished in the past few years because this market is virtually untapped,"" Knott observes. Residential systems integration contractors are those who specialize in the installation of several of the following products: audio, video, HVAC, lighting controls, security systems, video, PC networks, telecommunications systems and structured wiring services. Among those who made this prestigious list are Definitive Audio, Audio Command Systems and Audio Video Systems, who comprised the top three respectively. The CE Pro Top 50 survey data confirms the industry's projected growth pattern as predicted by Parks Associates, a Dallas-based market research firm specializing in emerging home technology. In a recent study, Parks projects the residential gateway market will more than triple by 2005, citing the increased demand for broadband Internet and high-definition entertainment services as key to the industry's continued expansion. The study also details important revenue and management data for these firms as well as potential challenges facing the industry.
