EdgeAudio Changes Name To Aperion Audio And Introduces A New Generation Of Home Theatre Speakers

25-May-01

EdgeAudio, Inc., a manufacturer of critically-acclaimed home theatre speaker systems sold exclusively via the Internet, is changing its name to Aperion Audio. The name change is in response to growing international demand for the companyís products, which called for the use of a brand name that could be registered worldwide. In addition, the company announced a new generation of speakers, featuring improved versions of current models and the introduction of a new subwoofer. ""We sell our products via the Internet, and so we have customers from around the world. Weíre eager to expand that business, but to effectively market our products internationally we need a name that is exclusively ours throughout the world,"" explained Win Jeanfreau, founder and President. ""Our new name is based on the Latin word meaning to reveal or make clear, and so reflects our approach to speaker design - to produce products that allow us to hear music and movie soundtracks the way their creators intended."" The name change becomes effective August 3, when a redesigned company Web site will debut at www.aperionaudio.com. Visitors to the EdgeAudio Web site (www.edgeaudio.com) will be automatically directed to the new address. The name change coincides with other developments at Aperion Audio. The company recently more than doubled its production capacity to meet the strong demand for its speakers. In addition, all new Aperion Audio speakers will employ a new dual-composition cabinet design that offers both sonic and aesthetic improvements. The enclosure interiors will be built using one-inch high density fiberboard (HDF), which is heavier and more uniform in density than wood or other commonly used materials. This lessens cabinet vibration and sonic distortion, resulting in smoother frequency response. Cabinet exteriors will be made of cherry hardwood stained to a medium cherry furniture-grade finish. The first all-new product to feature the new cabinet design will be an eight-inch powered subwoofer, featuring a 150-watt amplifier, two eight-inch passive radiators, and a cube-shaped cabinet measuring less than one cubic foot. Changes to the current line include an upgraded version of the companyís award-winning 12-inch powered subwoofer, now incorporating the dual composition cabinet and a new 250-watt amplifier with a variable crossover. In addition, the 502D satellite speakers, which use the patented DiAuralÆ crossover technology, will feature the new enclosure design, with one inch-thick walls versus the original 3/4-inch cabinet for even more rigidity and better performance. ""We have a new name and a new generation of speakers, but what hasnít changed is our commitment to offer the very best speakers for the price on the planet, while treating our customers like family,"" said Jeanfreau. Founded in 1999 as EdgeAudio, Inc., Aperion Audio is based in Tigard, Oregon, a suburb of Portland. The companyís products are sold exclusively through the Internet via Aperion Audioís own Web site and selected other online merchants, including Amazon.com and eCost.com. The companyís line of home theatre speakers includes satellite speakers that feature patented DiAuralÆ circuitry in place of a conventional crossover to produce a phase-coherent sound, free of the distortion and sonic artifacts created by traditional crossovers.
