Polk Announces Atrium Indoor/Outdoor Loudspeakers

Versatile Line Includes One Powered Model

Polk Audio announced a new line of indoor/outdoor loudspeakers - the Atrium Series. The line consists of two fully weatherproof passive models that pass military and ASTM standards for salt fog, corrosion, and immersion, and one powered model appropriate for indoor use.All three models are available in either black or white and feature brass and stainless steel hardware, a swivel wall-mount bracket, powder-coated aluminum grille, rubber driver surrounds, gold plated five-way binding posts, and sealed cabinets made of high temperature, UV-protected polymer rated to beyond 175 degrees F. The two passive outdoor models equal or exceed the weather-resistant standards of any music-quality outdoor speakers on the market today. The Atrium 45 and Atrium 55 are passive speakers with metal-coated soft dome tweeters and 4- and 5.25-inch mid/woofers, respectively. While well-equipped for reliable outdoor use, their high-level audio performance and placement versatility make Atrium speakers ideal for a wide variety of indoor applications, including surrounds in a home theatre system.The powered Atrium 45P features the same driver complement as the Atrium 45 plus a 50-watt stereo power amplifier with speaker-level and line-level inputs, and low frequency equalization for enhanced bass response. The Atrium 45P is ideal for use as an extension speaker with multi-zone systems such as the Polk Audio Digital Solution systems. It can also be used with personal portables and other non-amplified/low power sources. The Atrium 45 and 55 are available as of June 2001, at manufacturerís suggested retail prices of $239 and $359 per pair, respectively.
