Ambiance Acoustics has recently released what is arguably one of the most outrageous assemblages of a five channel loudspeaker system around, the HY-V (high five). This system includes five Hyper Cube loudspeakers and three two-channel outboard processors (thinking ahead for that sixth channel). With each one of the Hyper Cubes sporting 16 4.5-inch full-range drivers per vented enclosure, this equates to being ""surrounded"" by 80 speaker drivers in five channel mode!The design philosophy behind the Hyper Cube is one that utilizes room reflection for a sense of spaciousness (four drivers firing up and four drivers firing to each side), while still providing the necessary on axis spatial cues (four drivers firing forward) for imaging. For home theatre enthusiasts, this equates to an enveloping and involving presentation that places the listener right in the thick of the action.
