High-end electronics manufacturer Cinepro announces the release of the long-awaited update to its highly-acclaimed 3k6 power amplifier. The new model, called the 3k6 III is a complete redesign from the ground up. The company had one singular goal in its engineering effort - to increase the dynamic range of the power amplifier to more accurately match the actual dynamic range of the recent arrival of 24-bit D/A converters in preamps and surround processors. Cinepro feels that the 122dB dynamic range of the 3k6III sets a new standard for multichannel power amplifiers in its class. The increase in dynamic range benefits large-scale sound effects that occur with DolbyÆ Digital and DTSÆ soundtracks. Cannon blasts and plane crashes emanate from a totally silent background, making the percussive ìfeelî of the effect even more frightening. Equally important, the low level micro-dynamics are suddenly more present and noticeable due to the absolute absence of electronic noise in the amplification part of the reproduction chain. Cinepro President Eric Abraham says, ìSound emanates from a silky black silence to envelope (and sometimes frighten) the listener with new levels of realism. We have always produced amplifiers that go loud very well, now our amplifiers also define how realistic sound can be at whisper-quiet levels. This accurately mimics the sound contrasts of real life.î Other features of the new amplifier - full six-channel output (6.1 surround ready) 400 watts per channel into 8 ohms, 750 watts per channel at 4 ohms, and any two channels can be bridged into a prodigious 1000-watt channel. All channels feature 3dB of dynamic headroom above rated power. Very versatile rear panel configuration converts the amplifier into a three-channel 1000 watt monster, five channels - four channels at 400 watts plus one channel at 1000 watt, or six channels of 400 watts each. The price for the 3k6 III is $4,495, and is available now.
