Marantz America announced it will begin shipping its first multichannel Super Audio Compact Disc (SACD) player in August 2001. The new Reference Series SA-12S1 SACD player is an ultra-high-end digital audio/video source that is designed and built to the absolute highest standards to deliver extraordinary audio and video quality.The Super Audio Compact Disc format provides fidelity and resolution far beyond any existing audio recording and playback system - and multichannel SACD is the ultimate extension of the capabilities of the SACD format. To achieve its unprecedented audio performance, the SACD system employs Direct Stream Digital (DSD) technology, and is capable of a sampling rate of 2.8224 MHz. The six channels of a multichannel SACD disc can be recorded separately with a full 100 kHz frequency response and 120 dB dynamic range, to deliver surround sound music reproduction with an astonishing new level of realism, resolution, and spatial fidelity.
